This phone comes with the bootloader unlocked out of the box. All that needs to be done is install a recovery and flash the rom of your choice.

Fastboot is only possible if the device can boot. Have you tried to run the unbrick method?

Go into settings, then about phone, then tap build number many times quickly. That will open up developer settings

The app is just to install the recovery. Reboot into recovery to continue anything.
Once you install the recovery. You need to reboot into recovery with flashify then there will be an install option

On stock 4.4.2 i got maybe 3 hours of screen on time, now on CM12 lollipop i have at least 5-6 hours of screen on time. I would not recommend...
