A GS4 with MK2 has a locked bootloader. As of now, you can only use the Safestrap recovery and flash Touchwiz 4.3 and 4.4 based ROMS.
At this time, the only way to root on 4.4 is to downgrade to mk2 and flash a rooted 4.4 rom with safestrap....
Mk2 has a locked bootloader, so you can't use twrp. You'll have to odin back to stock mk2 and use the safestrap recovery instead.

KitKat isn't even rooted yet and there's no way to go back. Root may come soon but you're likely stuck on kitkat because of the locked boot loader.
