I would get an unlocked galaxy nexus and head over to T-Mobile

The 4g is BS. You likely won't see those speeds anytime soon. T-Mobile's 3g is faster than sprints 4g at the moment. I switched to a galaxy nexus...

If I have it on airplane mode tho shouldn't it turn everything off? I don't understand why I get drain when I'm not doing anything and all...

That maybe true when you start off with data connection but if you are starting without and it's unable to load directions in the first place then...

I've never had that problem. It should be the same as a headset. I plug my phone into my car everyday to play music and it's rock solid.
Worked fine for me. Only thing was that my sd card apps didn't load up over a long time on the first boot so I just rebooted and they came up...
