Will we ever see a dark/night reading mode?

Anybody with an inside scoop who can answer this question?

    Can't wait for RCS messaging

I have all the necessary updates, and I'm on Project Fi (you'd think Google would find a way to implement this service on Fi first), but I'm still waiting. I know other carriers need to get onboard. Any news about a timeline for that?

    Terrible reception in stormy conditions

I live in northwest Washington, and we have recently been experiencing some stormy weather. During the storm, I had no Fi coverage whatsoever, for 8+ hours. My work phone, on an AT&T SIM, had no such problems. I checked the Fi, T-Mobile, and Sprint websites for outages in my area, but I...

Why does stock Android itself now have GUI fragmentation?

Why is it that Google thought it would be a good idea to produce an entirely separate launcher (Pixel Launcher), with a different look? Why couldn't they just update the Google Now Launcher to meet their new design requirements?

Dear gods, when will I be able to uninstall this app??

With Movies Anywhere expanding the accounts a user can tie in, I was sorely hoping that my digital library managed by Flixster could be merged with the rest of my library, at long last. No such luck.

Why is Facebook's messaging strategy fragmented like Google's?

OK, not quite as bad as Google, but Facebook is pushing updates to Messenger and to WhatsApp without combining the best features of both platforms. It makes no sense to me, and I hate having both installed when I know that one company owns both.

Nexus 6 becomes painfully slow with low(ish) battery

Anybody else experiencing this issue? My device is not rooted, it's running the latest version of the OS on Project Fi. I have 32 GB storage and more than half of that is free space. I am very conservative with apps installed, and only keep those I use frequently. Nothing other than keeping...

    Almost a complete fitness app

Google Fit is still missing the social aspect that helps make other fitness apps—like Strava, Endomondo, and Runtastic—fun to use. I hope Google fixes that soon.

Has anyone had any success ditching physical payments altogether using Android Pay?

Is there any city on Earth where one could get away with that?

Some Web apps now show in app drawer when using Chrome's "Add to home screen" feature

This is super cool. I was able to uninstall several apps downloaded from the Play Store, because the Web app version is sufficient for my needs.

If you like board/card games and you're looking for a way to keep score

Look no farther than Rounds. I've been using Rounds for years now. It has a simple, functional, colorful UI and just the right amount of features.

    Type in any language

I love GBoard's native Google Translate function, which allows users to select a text field, type in English, and have GBoard output the user's desired language into the text field. Of course, Translate isn't perfect, but the results are more than sufficient for casual chat with someone who...

Anybody else wishing that Google would allow more device models on Fi?

I've been using Fi since the service launched, and I've been pretty happy. I do, however, find it slightly irritating that device selection is so limited.

Open Home - Full: An app best left to the days of the G1

Overview Open Home Full is a total Home replacement. For those who may not know what I mean by that, consider the custom UIs that some manufacturers are imposing on top of Android: HTC has Sense, Motorola has MOTOBLUR, Sony Ericsson has Rachel, and Samsung has Touchwiz. If you had a G1 and...

Pulse Rider Demo: Ride the Pulse!

I've decided to try something new with this review: with the help of my lovely wife, I've filmed a little clip of myself playing through the Medium difficulty setting of the Pulse Rider Demo. I apologize for the quality of the video beforehand, but try to keep in mind that this is the first time...

Gaming Buzz Widget: Quick and easy gaming news on the go!

It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that, in addition to being an Android enthusiast, I also consider myself a gamer. (Perhaps not hardcore enough to starve myself to death while playing a Wii, but I have to draw the line somewhere, you know?) Not only do I love to play video games, but I...

MixZing Media Player: A media player defined by its widgets

Ever since I first put music on my microSD card, back when I had my T-Mobile G1, I--like many Android users--have felt that the stock Android player was lacking something. Particularly: a personality. No automatic album art retrieval, no genre listing, no dynamic playlists, a seemingly...

Phandroid News: Straight-forward app for the best in Android news

Let us start by acknowledging that, if you are even reading this review, chances are that you think Phandroid is the best site for all of your Android news--or, at least, that it is probably near the top of your list for reliable Android news. (A note to those who may actually be visiting...
