    The Water Heater Thread

Hi, folks. Since this is now the "Early Bird" forum with presumably lots of early adopters of technology, perhaps that carries over elsewhere. ;) In any event I know there are a lot of very knowledgeable people here, and to be honest I tend to trust some folks here rather than on generic forums...

    Fatalities 2024

Football player (and mathematician!) Frank Ryan has died at 87; he was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. RIP, Mr. Ryan, with condolences to your family, friends, fans and loved ones.

    Funny/Creative Video Clips

While we have a video vault, there are so many great shorter clips I thought it might be good to have a separate thread for them. If I’m wrong, my apologies. Here’s a great one to start:

Will AI allow our loved ones to “live on” in a sense?

Part of an email I received this morning included the following bit: Silicon Valley codes a new grieving process The Future. Several AI companies are marketing services that hope to make grieving a thing of the past. These AI-powered recreations of loved ones may have the power to provide a...

The AI-Pin...a look into the future of wearable (integrated?) tech

I'm not an early-adopter type and I'm not the target audience for what may be the "next generation" of personal technology...but it does make me wonder about where this is all going. And yes, I realize it's not Android...yet. ;)...

Do not open if you have OCD

I thought it might be fun to have a separate thread to capture and share all of the great memes and pics that get the OCD juices flowing (and which otherwise get scattered and lost in other threads). Here’s a prime example… :D

    Happy New Year

As we prepare to close out the books (and paper calendars for those who still use them!) on 2022, I just wanted to say how much I enjoy this place and that’s because of its members. Thanks for being here. I hope 2023 is kind to you and those who are important to you. Have a happy and healthy...

    The (Official?) “I’m Married” Thread

I had an idea it might be fun to have a thread to share memes, funny pics, jokes, etc. around the idea of being married. Arguably they could just go in the generic ”Funny Pics” thread, but sometimes it’s good to have ‘a place’ to commiserate, so to speak. ;) If it doesn’t gain any traction it’s...

    2022 “Stawberry Supermoon”

So who got to see it? It was very pretty. We are traveling and are on the NE coast, where we were treated to a rare “Capsule Supermoon.” ;)

    Ukraine…

Something I believe we can all agree on is the awful disaster befalling Ukraine and its people. I also feel for the Russian people and soldiers as they have been lied to about Putin’s war and are suffering as well.

    Webp as an allowable image?

Since they are becoming more and more common, is it possible to allow the extension webp for image uploads?

Can anyone definitively identify this thing?

Hey, everyone. This is out there, but there are enough varied interests here that I think perhaps someone may know what this is. A friend of mine spotted it and laughed about it being a transformer, but he'd really like to know what it is. (As would I.)

    Steph Curry...just wow

I've been impressed by Mr. Curry for longer than I can remember, and secretly curse him and his coach for getting me interested in the NBA again (I'd sworn them off after their second strike). But Mr. Curry is a class act, and I'm happy that he's set another record that (God willing) he'll be...

Hope our members are all okay

Just heard about the awful tornados that took many lives, seems like mostly in Kentucky. For some reason I’m thinking that’s @olbriar’s neck of the woods, but in any event I hope the tornados didn’t affect any of my fellow AF alums.

    Finally done with Boost

I never really signed up with Boost, but became a customer when they acquired Virgin Mobile. I didn’t really have any problems with them, though for some strange reason after using an actual Boost SIM the signal was worse. Plus they didn’t have wireless calling and not even an option for...

    Scam Information

This link may be to AARP, but whatever your age you are likely to find at least a tip or two amongst these myriad links that may help you avoid being ripped off. https://www.aarp.org/money/scams-fraud/

    National Suicide/Mental Health: Dial 988

I’m not sure if this is worthy of a sticky, but I am sure it’s a crisis. And I’m glad the FCC has acted. The FCC has adopted 988 as a new three-digit number nationwide to reach the National Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Crisis Lifeline. So still 911 for other emergencies, but 988 for...

    Carriers who support WiFi calling?

We have some excellent forums here and I have to think this may have been discussed, but my apologies if I missed it. I live in an area where the only solid (cellular signal) provider is the $Big $V, so it would be nice to have WiFi calling. I had that feature via an old iPhone provided by work...

    Awful, Tragic Flooding in Europe

I'm really saddened by all of the flooding there. More than 120 dead, missing number potentially in the thousands, so many people who have basically lost everything. This is a compilation I found on YT that gives you a sense of how bad it is, at least in some places. I can't imagine.

The Are-You-Kidding-Me "Frequently Bought Together" Thread

We have all been there...you're on Amazon, checking out a product, and there it is, the "frequently bought together" items. Often these actually are related, but sometimes...what the heck, Amazon! So with that in mind I thought I'd start a thread where we could all enjoy the craziness that is...

Betty White turns 99 this weekend

I think it’s amazing not just that she is almost 99, but that she is doing better than lots of people who are decades younger. Happy Birthday, Betty! https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/tv/story/2021-01-14/betty-white-birthday-99

    Kids Say the Darndest Things

Art Linkletter warmed hearts and tickled funny bones weekly with his TV show, and there is so much of stuff in that genre all over the net, I thought it might be fun to have a thread to collect and share some of them. I’ll start with one I stumbled across...

    Confirmation Hearings...sigh

Listening to some of the callers on CSPAN argue about Amy Coney Barrett's qualifications is a primer on precisely why appellate judges should NOT be elected. OTOH, at least clueless morons can voice their opinions on CSPAN...

    Online-Literature.com

Hi, folks. Not sure why I haven't posted this previously, but for a bunch of works that are out of copyright, you can read them online for free via online-literature.com. It's where I read my first Dickens book (you'll have to guess) as well as my first Austen (P&P), both read on a BlackJack II...
