Has anyone else heard this episode of This American Life?
Holy crap. I nearly cried a few times. One of the best episodes of TAL in a long time.
If you own a computer or mobile device of any kind you need to listen to this. Yes, NEED to listen to it.
As far as I can tell it's not there.
Can anyone confirm this by going to the android market on your phone and searching youtube. Look for the official youtube app by google.inc
It seems to be missing and has been for about a week.
So ever since the Nov 14 youtube app update things have gone really down hill for the app. Now I can't even play a video with the screen locked, nor can anyone else according to all the negative reviews. Not to mention how slow the load time is, and that it apparently doesn't cache or buffer...
All of a sudden my battery life is WAY better than it has ever been. I've been rooted with various roms since day one. The only thing I can think of having changed is recently going from CM Trigger Redux 14 to version 15.
While I'm pleased with the better battery life I'd really like to know...
I'm always seeing people post pics on forums, but I can't seem to take screenshots that are small enough. How does a Linux user easily reduce the quality in favor of smaller size for pics? My default screenshot button takes rather large images that are too big.
Thanks in advance....
Since there is always so much tux-talk ;) in this forum I thought I'd share one of my favorite things: The Linux Action Show. If you've never heard of it here's the site.
Linux Action Show | Jupiter Broadcasting
These guys are funny and informative. Half the time they're talking about...
Can anyone help me find the url to star talk, the radio show hosted by Neil DeGrasse Tyson?
The website only has a rss feed and I still don't know what to do with it. I click on it and I get a giant page of links, none of which are to the podcast. I've tried a bunch of them and they don't...
I noticed after moving all my saved shell scripts from my external HD back onto my freshly reloaded laptop that they no longer had the same permissions as they did before.
This in itself isn't too weird I guess, but the strange part is that I no longer need to make new scripts executable i.e...
So I got no help from the Ubuntu forum - go figure. But I happen to know there are some pretty Linux savvy people around here so my original post on Ubuntu.com was:
I was thinking how cool it would be to be able to switch between my CLI environment (F1-F6) and the gnome (F7) by simply typing an...
So out of nowhere my media scanner won't scan my external sd card. The only way to get it to scan is to unmount it then remount it. At this point the scanner will make 2 failed attempts at scanning, each one lasting about 1/2 of a second. Then about 30 seconds later it will make a third attempt...
What's the nerdiest thing you've done on the command line (but didn't really have to)?
I've only done a bit of web surfing, but that's pretty hardcore considering I have a perfectly good browser.
It occurred to me that since Android is fundamentally Linux at heart (kernel) this might be why so many phones have trouble with hardware and the latest OS etc....
I might be wrong, but under the GPL licence sourcecode MUST be made available right? So does this mean that hardware...

Saw this on the "LINUX ACTION SHOW!!!", and thought you guys might like it.
p.s. yes, I know the one on the left is more than a little biased, but still some points are made.
He'll be on the next Big Bang Theory. Anyone else as stoked as I am?
I just hope this episode is better than the previous ones from this season. So far it hasn't been that impressive.
Can any tell me, with respect to Android specifically, what is the difference/relationship between the Kernel and the ROM??
I ask only because I'm not sure myself.
thanks,
It occurred to me a couple days ago that what Google is doing with Android is basically positioning itself to be the next microsoft of mobile phones.
At the moment Smartphones make up about 50% of the mobile phone market. But it's my theory (an easy one :-)) that in the coming years everyone...
I love my Vibrant to be sure. Maybe even a little too much. :)
But one of the things that really struck me as lacking - and for no good reason - was that most of the basic default apps were quite bad compared to what's available on the market. What I don't understand is how can Google be so...
