    Reception!

i normally have about 2-3 bars at my house which is great for data, phone calls, anything i need it for. but i cant hold the phone like a normal phone, i have to hold it from the top. The bottom i guess has a antenna in it which is dum because there should be no antenna on the bottom where your hand is going to block or alter reception.

so if i hold it from the top i get 3 bars normally...
if i hold it from the bottom i get 0 bars 1 sometimes .

thats kinda lame sauce in my opinion.

anyone else notice this flaw and have complaints about it?

While I had not noticed what you mention about bars because the reception at my house is terrible to begin with, I am going to start holding my phone higher up and see if it helps with my signal fade problems.

I just experimented and get no difference whatsoever no matter how I hold it. But now I'm going to be paranoid and hold it from the top! Thanks a bunch, Guy!! LOL

well i have no 3g right now and roaming on US CELLULARS towers so it might be different WITH 3g, but a signal is a signal i think.

also ima make a quick recording of the signal

Just curious, but what are your actual signal levels at? (Settings -> about phone -> network). I have learned to pretty much ignore the bars, as they really fluctuate meaninglessly...

I have been having problems also. My bars constantly bounce around. Usually only have 1 at home, and sometimes i am on 1X. I just switched to Verizon because they are supposed to be the best in my rural area. Alltel hasnt been bought out here, and to get a signal i roam onto thier towers (i think).

I dont know if the Dinc has a probelm with reception, im not saying it is the phones fault. Its just weird that the bars contantly bounce around.

Start a call or start downloading something and the bars will go up; it's just a power saving thing

From my Ham radio days, this means the antenna is on the top and your body is acting like an "extension" and increasing reception!

I would have to agree. Antennas need 2 parts and usually rely on the person to provide the counterpoise. That is why Hand Held Radios (anad thats what a cell phone really is) gets better reception when held vs sitting on a table. The person is acting as the Counterpoise. I am sure there is a video of someone taking an Incredible apart to see where the Antenna is.

I never noticed this issue, but I have always held my phones from the top and hold at a horizontal angle. They must have made this phone with me in mind.

They were deliberate in not specifying a time frame. ;)

    Where it's hot
I personally haven't had this issue but am aware that a few people are, let's hope this gets resolveed sooner rather than later and allow Inc users to enjoy their phones that much more!

I was amazed when I read this and saw the video above but it's absolutely true for my DInc. Holding on top increases the signal by 5-10 dBm every time. Calls still go through at 100 dBm, which is nutty, but what do I know about cell phone technology. I do know that when the DInc can't get a signal at work it goes into meltdown mode (gets really hot) and I have to turn the phone off or the battery drains like there's no tomorrow...

Are you posting in the correct thread? If so, what does that mean?

I see now! No problem. It always helps to quote the post you are responding to in your reply, or at least the part you are replying to. It's easy to lose your place in these threads as they tend to move on pretty fast sometimes.

By the way, welcome to the forum! :D
