10.1 Note Chargers: How Proprietary?

So far, every time I plug my 10.1's USB cord in to a power source besides the one that came with it, a red "X" appears over the battery. OTOH, my 5.3" note works with everything I've plugged it into. Charges faster on some, slower on others... and might be cooking the battery on some... but it always works.

But not the 10.1.

"OK, maybe it's the 2-amp thing... and these other chargers (inluding my desktop PC) are only delviering one."

But I just tried it with a generic automobile cigarette-lighter source that claims to deliver 2 amps - but got the same red "X".

What am I missing? Has Samsung done something proprietary with their charging scheme on this thing?

I think I have it: the boys and girls at Samsung have been playing games. At the behest of the marketing department? Dunno...

If anybody else is where I am (Samsung 5.5" Note + 10.1" Note and wanting to avoide two sets of cables), I think I've stumbled on to a more-or-less usable workaround that enables me to use the micro-USB cables from my 5.3" Note on the larger tablet - and, if desired, other 5v switched USB power supplies besides the tablet's.

Probably cheaper just to buy a couple extra chargers/cables, but the "Juiced" adapter is something I would have bought anyway in order to be able to read flash drives.
