We have rumored, dwelled, and hoped for 12/08 to be the release date. Now, 3 days away, VZW has not announced the phone, made any communication of its existence, or any other information.

    1. The sign up page has not sent any notification on the Galaxy Nexus since it went up weeks ago.
    2. If there is a release, VZW has launched pre-order sales, at least to their best customers.

Based on historical data, I think we are in a pipe dream to think we will have our hands on the Nexus this week from VZW.

I hope it is out because I threw my OG Droid across the room because it would not unlock from the stupid car mode. Didn't break unfortunately.

I have my $300 ready to go. If there is no announcement this week, I am going with the iPhone 4S. Moto and HTC suck. That leaves all other phones out on VZW.

I just called verizion acting like I was a new customer. I told the rep I wanted a new contract but I only wanted to sign up when the Nexus is released. I asked her if she had any information on the phone and she replied she knew nothing about it. Then I told her I was going to go to AT&T then... she still told me she has no info about the phone in her system.
As of 5 minutes ago..... the rep I spoke knew nothing about the phone....

Unlike the RAZR; this isn't a "Droid" phone, so it's no big deal to Verizon. Just like the Rezound which got no announcement (from Verizon) before if launched. I can see them just adding the phone to their selection on Thursday/Friday without saying anything whatsoever. Which is completely baffling to me since it will be the best phone on their network, but no less believable considering this is Verizon.

I agree with this completely. It has already been "announced". The only ones that are drooling and have our panties in a bunch are us (minority). VZW will not make a big announcement.

best phone on their network according to us that are Android enthusiast. But to the general public i have to say no to that. The common cell phone user which is a much larger group than us won't care about the G Nex

I figured, this being a forum, someone would dispute that. But whether or not the general public acknowledges this phone or is irrelevant. Sales aren't even relevant. It has the best hardware and software of any (Android - not trying to start an OS debate) phone on Verizon. That's not really disputable at the moment.

    imo
actually that is heavily debatable considering the ReZound and RAZR have very similar spec'd hardware

imo software is a moot point since each device will be a little more evened out with ICS or custom Roms eventually

You have to factor in display too. There's actually no room for argument on the RAZR. It's pretty cut and dry; the RAZR has a OMAP 4430 vs the Nexus' 4460, which gives the Nexus a faster GPU (SGX 540 on both clocked at 304 MHz and 384 MHz respectively) and more headroom to OC since it's rated to go to 1.5 GHz. The OMAP 4430 is only rated to 1 GHz, so it's technically OC'd from the factory. Plus the displays between the two are almost night and day despite them being the same type, just at different resolutions.

Between the Nexus and the Rezound is harder to compare as they both have tradeoffs, esp in the display realm. SAMOLED HD (pentile matrix) vs HD SLCD (traditional RGB matrix). They have their trade-offs that cancel each other out, IMO. But otherwise, the Snapdragon SoC is probably the slowest on the market when compared clock for clock to the OMAP and Exynos SoCs. The Adreno GPUs has been significantly outperformed by the Mali and SGX line too. It's hard to compare them right now though since no benchmark apps have been updated to run on ICS well (which is obvious when you look at the Nexus vs RAZR bench numbers).

You have to consider the hardware as a whole. You can easily say an OMAP 4430 is less powerful than an OMAP 4460. However, if the 4430 matches the specs to the Razr better than the 4460 to the Nexus, then the Razr is the best phone on VZW. Let me explain...

I have been very concerned with the GPU for the HD screen on the Nexus from the beginning. I have watched all of the boot animations on several peoples videos. It seems that the OMAP4460 has trouble with the graphics on the boot screen. If the GPU is having problems on those basic graphics, how is it going to perform with graphic intensive apps? This is not confirmed and only from my watching of videos online. If it holds true, it is almost like putting a Geo Metro engine in a Corvette.

remember that some of the vids online on the G Nex were still getting software updates the whole time so it may be better/different on the final version that a lot of us see.

I'm assuming you're talking about the slight lag when the boot animation first starts. But after the first second or two, it smooths out looks nice. This is most likely due to the phone loading its initial boot processes causing it to lag a bit at the beginning. Almost every phone (and even PC) exhibits this and is not an indication to the GPUs abilities whatsoever. Basically what you're seeing there is a .gif (animated) image that continues to loop. The image is not even polygonal or rendered as a 3D animation and is hardly stressing the GPU or CPU at all. If anything, it's working a lot harder on loading up the OS and UI as fast as it can so you can actually use the phone.

There is the argument that the GPU on the Nexus has to push more pixels for its HD display. In a 2D environment, like on your launcher or web browser, it's still nowhere near taxing the GPU though. If the game (or whatever other 3D application) you're running is not even optimized to take advantage of a 1280x720 resolution display, then it will render at the highest it can (either qHD/960x540 or WVGA/800x480) and just upscale it to the Nexus' HD display. Therefor the game will actually run faster than it would on the RAZR since it's running at the same resolution while enjoying the benefit of the faster GPU on the 4460.

So it pretty much works just the same as PC games; if only devs gave you the option to choose your resolution and IQ on the phone. That way as more demanding games come out, you can choose to scale the games res down so the GPU doesn't have to work as hard to keep the frame rate high.

That's valid concern. But considering that Adreno GPU on Rezound seems to have no problem moving HD pixels even with Sense UI, bloats, I don't see why more capable SGX540 in 4460 can't move HD pixels similarly or better in Nexus.

Remember, the Bionic didn't get announced until the day before it went on sale. Even DROID branded phones sometimes get the shaft from VZW. The 8th or 9th is looking extremely likely. All the stars are lining up.

I am not talking about the lag at the beginning. I am talking about lag/hiccups in the middle. You are right that it may be earlier versions. There is no way to know the phone level or code level in some of the videos. I still hope all is well.

Ahh, well regardless, the boot-up animation is not a good indicator to go off of whatsoever when trying to asses the phones GPU performance. As I said before; the phone is just trying to load the OS/UI at that point and the boot-up animation is just there to hide that process while giving you something to look at. I would expect a little stuttering while it loads.

That hiccup in the middle is where the boot loop starts over.

boot animation is just presentation of a bunch of pictures in a row. I don't think its hardware accelerated and therefore not a good comparison for gpus

If they had named it the "Droid Nexus" it would be well advertised.

I spoke with a VZW Rep a few days ago on the phone (tech support). For a issue with another phone. After our business he went into the typical 'hey you have a phone with an upgrade available' I told him I'm waiting for the G Nex.His reply
"Yes, you and everyone else, I can only tell you it's coming but hey... Have you seen the RaZor? It's thin, the specs are ...., blah blah"

LOL... I hate when they pimp a crappy phone. For normal customers with little knowledge or no brains *cough* crApple phanboys *cough*, it is easy to push one phone over another. Most sales are based on...

    1. How it accessorizes with their outfits
    2. What their friends have because they will be left out in the cold
    3. Apple (remember the video?)
