I just received my replacement Eris from Fed Ex. I have it all customized and now it's prompting me to update the phone with the over-the-air update that has created so much discussion. I keep tapping "remind me later".

What is the consensus on this update for replacement handsets? Has anyone not updated?

Also, if I don't update now, will I run into trouble with future updates (such as the one coming in January)?

    Thanks for your feedback.

Seems it's hit or miss with people having problems with the 12/11 OTA update. As for me, I have had nothing but better changes after the OTA update. I would go ahead and do the update. No, to your question about not updating and having it limit your ability for future updates. There are a few people that are opting to wait for the 2010 update and not update now. I would update anytime there is an update available.

Well the 12/11 update breaks the YouTube app. If you want that to keep working, don't update yet. Basically that app stops working when you are on 3g, but it works fine on wifi. Just a thought...

I remember reading something before too, but I couldn't find it.

Is there a way to disable the notification for this update? I'm going to have to keep declining it. Seems that VZW almost insist that you update!

My fear was that if I don't update, and "fixes" are updated in the future, the new "fixes" could cause problems for me.

nah, the next update SHOULD be the OS update, that will pretty much overwrite everything. idk if you can disable the notification or not...

I may have to sacrifice some things like You Tube and do the update. One, because I keep getting the notification, and two, my battery seems to be draining more quickly without it.

    Ahh, trade offs.

Well, according to VZW, the update is mandatory. There's no way around it. The phone will continue to notify every 30 minutes. The second link on their page says it's "mandatory". Ugh.

You could keep denying it if you don't want it. I'd just go for it and do it, the next update will be Jan 22 or something. This update will fix some stuff and break some other stuff too.
