Damn I missed it too! Moving from a Nokia N97 with 32gb built in has been a tough move, the 4gb included in the box hasn't given me much music! The price difference between 8 and 16gb is a big leap though so I might have to scale back to an 8 for now!
These speeds are decimal as all Hardware manufacturers report in this (not actual binary like windows etc) where 1MB is 1,000,000B (instead of the actual amount which is really 1MB is 1048576B) So in real terms, for a class 2, you will be able to transfer 1.9073MB in a second. That's still pretty good though. That's 15.25Mbit/s. You'd be lucky to get that out of a 16Mbit/s broadband connection.
You can download 'Benchmark' by softweg free from the android market. Appbrain/Benchmark It has a section on File System performance which should give some interesting results for comparison...
Yeah. But most seem to be at least that. The class 2 card that came with the device transfers data at roughly 3MB/s I find
To be honest, I never even tried it. I gave it to my fiance straight away and stuck my blackberry one in. Its only a class 4 but noway I need more than that. The 4GB one is currently laying around as a goldcard somewhere.
There's a review of the 8 GB version here with some benchmarks: - Review of the Lexar 8GB Class 6 microSDHC: Are Class 6 cards worth it? | The Nokia Guide Performance is not that great compared to a class 4 Sandisk and it's even bettered by a class 2 Sandisk in some tests.
thanks Fried, will read that when work is a little more quiet, but from a glance it looks like it isn't worth it indeed compared to a sandisk even class 2...
I'm not very clued up on how to spot a good card, but from the Lexar review it doesn't necessarily seem that class 6 cards are always better than class 2 cards. Just wondering what everyone
Actually, class 1 is formally defined at 8 Mbit/s and so forth. So the speed ratings are true base 2, not base 10. Capacities, however, are as you say.
well I see I have only launched a frenzy of buying, as they are again out of stock, just as I decide to "just go for it" :'( So in exchange would anybody out there care to report on how good it is faring? many thanks Given Fried's link I wouldn't mind buying a Sandisk class2 instead, but I can't seem to find a "trusted" seller that sells it for at least the same price as the lexar....
Click "32 new" link on that amazon page, and it shows the other sellers with the same product. One of them is amazon themselves, at
You'll want a class 4 or 6 for 720p recording and playback. Preferably a Sandisk one as they're by far the most reliable manufacturer.
I've recorded and watched the 720 recording on my phone and it's absolutely fine and that's just using the card that came with it, which i believe is class 2. It's a Sandisk though so perhaps it does really make a difference which brand you buy.
If you watch it closer you'll most likely see it stutters on playback. If not, you got lucky with the card, because most class 2 cards (Sandisk or otherwise) can't cope with the transfer requirements.
It seems Ok to be honest but it may be that if I put a class 4 or 6 in I'd notice the difference. It'll do for now till I can afford to buy a new sd!
I bought one of these cards and received it yesterday. It seems good so far. Previously I had an 8Gb SanDisk Class 4 microSD HC card in the phone. I transferred the data from this card to a pc and then back to the new SD card via the USB dongle I was getting a write speed roundabout 9Mb per second. As a test I then tried copying the same data back to the 8Gb Sandisk and had speeds around 12Mb per second. I always suspected that 8Gb card was performing well as noticed before that copying movies etc. was always quick. I don't see it as a problem but will be interesting to see how it performs in the Desire.
Which one did you get? Sorry but can't work out where you've got it from. Doesn't seem to be that many bargains out there anymore so if anyone has got a link to any good bargains let us know would you!!
I have also just bought a Sandisk 16GB class 2 from ebay.co.uk (there are loads of them available). I paid
I've got a class 2 32gb sandisk and tried some HD recording and it seemed to manage fine. The playback was fine too. Previously I had a class 10 16gb card and I had stutters with that (before 720p update) so I suspect the card type is not always the limiting factor but perhaps the software? Hopefully there will be no more stutters with 2.2
