Just kidding. It's been so long.
Okay this is for the Moto Droid... not the eris...
Unless there's something I'm missing - that's for the Motorola Droid, not the HTC Droid Eris..
edit: I've been ninja'd.
It happens to the best of us.
Could the Eris be soon to follow the 2.1 release for Droid?
Well seeing that they are trying to port SenseUI for 2.1 specifically for the outdated processor (eris) seeing they already have it out for the Snapdragon... who knows??
I'd hate to admit that OfTheDamned's outrageous calculation of a February 12th 2.1 update estimation for our phone just gained more legitimacy, other than looking at the distance, in days, between updates.
I don't see how the Droid's 2.1 update is at all related to when Eris users will receive 2.x.
I have a co-worker who tests the software loads. He's going to try and let me know when he starts testing 2.1 on the Eris.
Not to be a buzzkill... but I have a buddy who works with Verizon R&D and was told that 2.1 will never be on the Eris. Something about the processor not being able to support it.
I will have to ask him again for the technical jargon.
Can someone explain to me what all the hype of 2.x is for the Eris? I don't have all the technical specs or anything but from what i have read the main addition to Eris users is voice nav for google maps. Nowadays most cars come with nav or most everyone has a portable GPS device. So what is all the fuss about?
Yeah right the vogue has 2.1 running on an older processor than ours. Lol
It's written more efficiently (faster, less memory used for the base system) and doesn't have the memory leaks that 1.5 has.
Newer and more efficient software/apps can be used with it.
For us, this means more apps in the Market, Google Goggles, Google Navigation via Google Maps, possibly more speed and reliability, less/no use for a Task Manager (for those who use one), and being ready for the Apps of the future (developers will be developing more and more for 2.x+ and not 1.5+).
Now i have somethign to look forward to.
Hey don't shoot the messenger. I have no problem eating some delicious crow
There's always room for improvement in anything, Eris is no exception. I say take your time developing it so that you get all the bugs worked out. Then there's less chance of bugs later. Remember the update everyone craved until the you got it and then the YouTube app went crazy. Just my opinion.
can i just have 1.6?
Not true. Coming from the source, it's completely capable.
lmao .. heck, I'll settle for 1.5.00001 at this point.
No idea if this is just a random coincidence, but I just got off a phone call and noticed my eris came up with a pop up saying OTA update- message unsuccessful....no idea if this is 2.x related or possibly related to the fact that verizon service has been working on and off now since 8am (Harrisonburg, Va).
Interesting, but OTA updates usually come at night.
The mystical update fairy comes to your house and sprinkles magic update dust on your phone. The update dust will then work its way into your phone's OS. Over the course of the next few hours the phone will build the update. Then, when it is ready to update you will get a notification. You can't try and stay up to see this happen though. The fairy is very shy and won't come if you are awake. The fairy has wings and this is why they call them over the air (OTA) updates, because she can fly.
Seriously though, they usually do happen really early in the morning. That is probably a network update, but keep us informed.
For some reason the old song, "Don't Bogart that Joint, My Friend" came to mind while reading that.
It's coming. It isn't. I'm as skeptical as ever. Sorry...
Not to be a jerk, but shouldn't this be part of the existing 2.x update thread?
