Some hope for us Eris users.
This is beautiful. Thank you for posting it.
I will be impressed with the G1 on 2.1. Perhaps a stripped down version? 192mb of RAM is not a lot to run it. Then again, it's not a lot to run 1.5 or 1.6 either.
There are some good morsels of info in that article, but I'm wondering about the Q2 "on schedule" thing; did I misunderstand earlier articles saying "by end of Q1?"
Remember there is more than one carrier and brand in this group.
Ooo... ok. Cool.. I have been thinking it's an across the board thing, but obviously the carriers and makers will not be in sync; my bad.
So, let's get the Verizon Eris owners first then (everybody concentrate, chant and pray).
I wouldn't be surprised if it is not until Q2. HTC releases their new phones not until March or April with the 2.1 + Sense. Would be funny to see new stuff come out after getting our updates and already using the software. Hehe.
PS: Hope I don't jinx it though.
i still wont believe anything until i see something official
I think they meant 2.1 was coming in 1Q meant in form of new phone N1.
I hope that the Eris is OTA and doesn't require a PC based install, since I own only Macs right now. Well, I have Bootcamp on one of them, but I really hate using Windows. And I'm willing to bet that "PC based install" really means "Windows based install".
Of course, this guy admits he was wrong about the G1 getting Donut, so perhaps he's still just guessing.
im sure you can go into a store and get it done. or you must know someone with a pc
This doesn't surprise me; it really is in Google and HTC's (and other manufacturers') interest to have all Android devices on a level OS platform. One of the big complaints about Android has been the multiple hardware and software platforms making it harder to develop and maintain apps.
While some "conspiracy theories" say HTC/Verizon like to obsolete devices quickly so people will buy another, I think there's more to sales to be gained by showing that your device will *not* be obsolete in 3 months. How many of you hemed and hawed about whether to get an Eris or to wait a month for the next big thing? I know I did, and if we do get "stranded" on 1.5, with more and more cool applications only for 2.x, I might not bitch and moan, but I also wouldn't likely buy another Android device.
The original iPhones are running the latest OS; they don't have all of the hardware features (and some things that faster hardware enables, like voice dialing), but they can generally install all of the same apps that the latest 3G S can. So I have confidence that if I bought a 3G S today, that whatever comes this summer, while it would be better, wouldn't make my purchase now worthless.
That's what I like about Apple lol. Google/All their carries that have their phones need to stop torturing us and just freakin give us 2.1. It's so stupid how they are still releasing phones with 1.6.
Finally good to see something positives about 2.1 being released our way. The surprising part about that is that all phones currently out are getting the upgrade. Soon, 1.5, 1.6 and 2.0 are gonna be old news. Hopefully this means all future devices will start at 2.1
I really wonder if Q1 is still HTC's target for the eris
And if we'll need a wipe
I for one do not want to have to wipe my phone to get 2.1. Besides m. hoping we have root before 2.1 drops. Go acidbath!!
i generally do my own wiping, but if htc insists.......
Ha ha.. pretty funny
i couldn't help myself
Android 2.1 update moved up from Q2 to Q1 – Android and Me
is what i found from the same site..so I think it will still be Q1..
here what androidcentral just tweeted
Of course it's unverified.
Say's nothing about the Eris.
