Had my Eris since December and I still have 1.5 should I go ahead and download 2.1 or should i keep 1.5? I have been waiting for the upgrade forever just like everyone else here but with all the negatives I have been reading I am wondering if its worth it.

But what you don't hear are ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL the people that don't have any problems with it. You only hear the bad, because this a forum for eris, and many people come here for help. Not many people come her to say "my eris rocks with 2.1". With that being said, I LOVE my 2.1 upgrade. Seems like it has actually been a success, with your problem phones here and there. But, FWIW, if you do go to 2.1, make sure you do a factory reset right after the OTA to get rid of any bugs that might be sitting there. Going that route seems to eliminate a lot of the problems people are having.

+1 I'll second namu1107's sentiments... I love my Eris and have had very few problems with it. OnePointFive was good---TwoPointOne is better! :D

Lots more apps available...more functionality (Google Navigate for a big one). Many folks feel that if you had a good 1.5 phone, that you'll have a better 2.1 phone. Do it! :)

I will agree with your first responder, with a caveat. You absolutely must (in my opinion) do a factory reset on the phone, once the OTA update is installed. My 2.1 Eris was like a brain damaged border collie. I did a factory reset and ALL is well. The only issue I have is slight sluggishness here and there, but thats more about the Eris hardware than the 2.1 software.

Haha.. I need to read more carefully. He said the same thing I did. LOL...

If I had it to do over again I would have done the dame thing (allow the 2.1 OTA to install), having had it now for weeks, and I dare say I was happy with it right from the beginning.

Keep in mind, in most casts, not all but most, if your device is running great with few or no bugs on 1.5 it will do the same on 2.1.

If it's buggy now a likelihood of it remaining buggy on 2.1 has cropped up in the forums; in other words, don't expect 2.1 to fix deep, ongoing problems that you may have in 1.5, it probably won't.

Also, I feel that to increase the chances of a great transition, use the factory reset as a final step in the 2.1 installation process:

Same here, 2.1 has been great. Did a factory reset afterwards as well. I'll be able to comment on the theory that a buggy 1.5 may result in a buggy 2.1. A coworker of mine wanted to run his Eris over with his car due to the buggy nature of it. Just yesterday he let me upgrade it to 2.1 and do a factory reset. In a week or so, I'll find out how it has been doing.

I was the same way, had 1.5 on and would not go to 2.1.. And when I did finally give in I went to 2.1 hated it and went back down to 1.5. I was so afraid to r00t because I thought I wouldn't like it and then not be able to go back to 1.5 or something. I went ahead and r00ted and it was the best choice I made for this phone!, I've done nothing but test ROMs since ive goot r00t. I havent had one ROM for more than 2 days.

    ROOT!!!

Even if it's just the 2.1 ota rom with root permissions, root.

You don't need to be into custom roms, you can just use the root apps like wifi tethering, and get rid of the stupd stock apps that run all the time like amazon. Trust me, root before you get a 1.49hboot and regret it.

yeah like some of the others have said. If you can Root is something you should do it's easy to do and the options you have after is SO much better than just 2.1 stock. even if you never use the Rooted programs its the fact that you have the option if you want to later is worth it, and you can always unroot down the road if you want it.

Another thing, if you hate all the stupid 'little things' that lag and just annoy you, you can overclock. That will make the phone feel way smoother, and you can even underclock a little when the screen is off. Plus, we know you want live wallpapers :D

Also, I've gotten immensely better battery life when using senseless roms.
