Sorry if this is a nube question which I am sure it is. I LOVE my Droid and like many cant afford to brick it. From reading many comments I am confident I can do it without bricking it, my question though is this. Froyo was announced to be delivered to Droids on July 13th. is there any advantage to rooting before July 13? Will a Froyo Rom be better/faster than the actual Froyo? Would a ROM be faster since I can overclock?

I am almost over the fence and playing on TEAM ROOT. I just want to know if its even worth doing knowing I will be getting Froyo in little over a week. Thanks and LONG LIVE THE DROID!

Not sure where you heard Froyo was being delivered to the Droid on July 13th as it was just released as open source on June 23rd. I would say if you want Froyo in the next month or so you will need to root. (but I could be wrong) I just know when they said 2.1 would be released it keep getting pushed back and rooted 2.1 ROMs were out months before the over-the-air update.

But to answer your questions I have always found a rooted ROM to be faster and have MANY more options than stock.

    +1

Your phone will be much happier with Froyo (stock or root). Having said that, you will have a lot more options with a rooted Droid. Different ROMs, different overclocking speeds and kernels, THEMES, and a few "root" specific apps that can back up all of your apps/settings, etc.

Any Froyo you get from OTA will be a watered-down version. Come to the ROOT side and get the full bowl of tasty Froyo goodness! If I can do it, you can do it!

Also holding off on rooting because of the impending froyo update. There's one question I have that can push me into rooting.

Will we be able to flash sbrecovery after the 2.2 update or do I HAVE to do it now before the update removes the ability to do so?

    Thanks everybody :)
