2 questions about the s7

So I've pre-ordered my S7 edge through Best Buy. It is the AT&T version. I paid full retail price without any type of data plan. First question, Will I be receiving my s7 on March 8th, March 11th or possibly even earlier? I've heard different dates from different sources. Second question, I plan on using my S7 through straight talk service. I have been a straight talk user for years and never had an issue with them. Their customer service informed me that as long as the phone runs on the correct GSM bands then the phone is compatible. Shouldn't be a problem, right?

If the phone is under contract & not paid for in-full,most likely it will be SIM Locked to AT&T.
Even if the phone is paid for in-full,you're gonna have to contact AT&T to get it SIM unlocked,it's not gonna arrive ready to go on Straight Talk.

Also, if AT&T continue to update their models themselves and not through Samsung, you will need to be registered on the AT&T network to receive OTA updates as AT&T's firmware is not available from the usual Samsung sources, to download and flash via Odin, (with the exception, usually, of the initial release firmware).

Even if there is only one hardware variant for the US Market,my guess is that all will be locked to the carrier you buy it from,with the carrier bloatware to go with it.
That & count on the AT&T/VZW models to be locked down for development/unlocking the bootloader/root/ROMS....................

If this is important to you,ya might wanna reconsider & send it back/cancel the order & wait for the T-Mobile version,which is typically easily unlocked/rootable/ROMs...............

They have to unlock it if all financial/contractual obligations are met,the law states as much (You still have to request the SIM Unlock though).

I wouldn't worry too much old son. Early days yet but it appears the sim lock is for what used to be the old carrier locked phones. Instead of producing all those regional and carrier models and firmware for them, it now seems that all the Global phones will be identical until a sim is inserted and if your particular carrier wants/needs a locked device and extra apps, they will be downloaded. This makes the Global model easier to update... a la iPhone. If your carrier does not lock your phone now, this won't lock it. Or, if you get it from, say, CarphoneWarehouse, which do not have locked phones, it won't lock it. Should make security updates easier to issue too. This is also different from the regional lock. All will become clearer in the fullness of time. Obviously, the exception will be the U.S. carrier minority variants... as usual.

Update: So I received my s7 edge last night. Not a single problem setting the phone up using straight talk. Everything works great. For anyone thinking about using their s7 with straight talk I would recommend.

Did you have to call AT&T to get it SIM Unlocked,or,did it work on Straight Talk out-of-the-box?

I did not have to call AT&T. Only had to call straight talk to activate the sim card.

They (AT&T) must have unlocked it prior to shipment,being that you paid for the phone in-full.

Yes. I made sure that the first sim card I inserted was the AT&T version straight talk sim.
