    1. Today I saw a system update on my phone. I wanted to come home and install the update on wifi so clicked "later" ... how upon reaching home the system update has disappeared and there is now way I can get back to the system update.

    2. Also 2 days back. I downloaded talking tom 2 app. this app wanted to download 26 MB of game data. Now I connected my phone to wifi and started the download. it reached 90% very soon. However I made the mistake of stepping out of my house ( i think someone rang the doorbell) and the wifi signal dropped.

now the download got stuck at 90% and despite rebooting the phone and connecting and reconnecting to networks there was no way to either restart it or cancel it.

No matter what I did I could not remove the stuck download.

Finally and luckily there was a update on the same app yesterday and upon updating the app, it said it needs to download 3 MB of data and went from 90% to 100%

I found this really annoying that there is no way to cancel or restart a download because of a simple issue of connection drop.

With pre ICS I pressed long on the download's progress bar to cancel the download.

With ICS there is this "X" flanking the progress bar for canceling the download.
Never had a problem with my One X to cancel a download :)

    Hi abhishes,

To do the system update :

Settings > About > Software updates > Check now.

That should start the update. Please make sure that your battery level is at least at 35% and that the phone is disconnected from the charger during the update installation.

As for the problem installing an app when the WiFi signal drops out, I've never experienced that problem so can't really advise.

This is correct, however I too got the notification and as I did not have access to wifi I selected to be reminded in 1 hour (never received the reminder). Trying both this and the old school *#*#CHECKIN#*#* did not work yet, so I guess I am just waiting until the notification pops up again... Just as an add-on to SilverSurfer's reply above, HTC/AT&T limit checking for updates to once per 24 hours. There is an old workaround (if it still works):
    1. In Settings go to "Date & Time"
    2. Uncheck "Automatic date & time,"
    3. Set the date to tomorrow,
    4. Retry checking for an update (may need to reboot),
    5. Repeat until you get the notification

I have encountered this most of the time with the Amazon Appstore (which has no "X" to cancel and cannot be swiped away), the only thing I have found is to go to Settings -> Apps -> Running -> select the app -> Stop , then restart the app and the download (which might even pick up at 90%) should restart.
