First off, thanks to everyone on this forum for all the hints, tips and tutorials. I now have a Hero as fast as any touch phone I've played with. This is my mix:

    1. rooted with fresh 1.1
    2. gumbo kernal loaded

    BIGGEST CHANGE!!
    3. unloaded HTC Sense and now use Home

Once I switched to home, everything is instant. The first noticable change I made so far. Gumbo was noticable on how much memory stays free but I didn't really see speed in using the phone itself. I never knew the phone could actually perform this way. I miss the visuals but the speed makes it a non issue. All I need now is to see if the widgets i use now in replace of HTC widgets don't mess with my battery.

One question, the only thing not working is the messaging icon don't have a count on it anymore. was that a HTC thing?

I liked Home but there is only one clock to choose from.

I use digital clock widget, a small simple digital clock in the middle of the screen is what I was using with sense.

Some people get pissed at me for making a couple 2.1 update threads and this is like what? The 148th thread on rooting in just the last week? They really all need to be merged, waste of space.

How do you remove sense? Do you have to use pre-kitchen from fresh? Thanks!

You really want to see some speed, install Pancake 0.1 Try chromatic's 2nd version with sprint nav only. Amazing.
