Long story short I have about 36 hours to make a decision on a phone. I _must_ make a selection by Wednesday. I've been offered a free new Smartphone without contract extension from a local retailer.

I have Sprint as my Carrier so my Options are as follows:
    1.) Samsung EPIC 4G
    2.) Google Nexus S 4G

I did have the Evo 4G on the list but I'm a _big_ fan of the Super AMOLED displays. If you think you can make a case for it, please do.

With the Nexus, I love the idea of the Vanilla Android experience but I use Sprint Navigator time-to-time. I played with the device in-store and it was fantastic. Fast and responsive but I understand it's been having some issues. Is this true? Also, it doesn't come with Swype, which I really want. (EDIT: I got into the Swype Beta, problem solved)

With the EPIC, I really like TouchWiz. Besides the slow updates & thickness I don't see anymore down-sides. It's a nice device. It comes with Swype, so that's a plus. Only Android 2.2 however. It's a nice phone.

I'm going to try to make a poll here... any input is _greatly_ appreciated. Really, really, grateful... thank you. I'm sorry for such short notice.

Thank you again for anyone who can chime in on this...

EDIT: Leaning heavily towards the Nexus S 4G. I don't see a downside...

I say Nexus. But it's purely personal opinion.

I love the Nexus, but they are having problems with much slower data speeds than other Sprint phones. I am going to wait and see if it gets fixed with an update, but since you don't have that option, you would have to be willing to risk it. Other downsides are no sd card slot and no zoom on camera.

I would recommend the Samsung Epic 4G. I really love mine.

If you can get the Nexus 4G and resell it, and make more money to buy a used Evo or Epic on Sprint, that might be the better way to go. Then you can put the savings towards a Galaxy S2 on Sprint or Evo 3D when it comes out.

I like the Nexus S, but the lack of microSD card *really* turns me off. I just used the microSD card today to do a NAND back up on the road, and try out a new ROM, from the comfort of a hotel. The fact that I could restore to my old NAND and data, flash ROMs, even when away from home, with the microSD card, is a real good feeling.

Without a removable microSD card to do so, I would really feel uncomfortable, in case the process wiped my internal storage clean. I would literally be stuck up a creek. The microSD card provides real comfort and peace of mind for me.

I'm only going to own this phone until the SGSII or the Nexus 3 comes out. So it's not a huge decision; but that doesn't mean I want to make the wrong one.

As a G1 and Nexus One user, I say stick with Stock Android. You won't be disappointed.

In that case, it makes it a lot easier to decide in my mind, I'd go with the Nexus S 4G (cuz I think resale value will be a little better than the Epic).... that is assuming you're gonna sell it when you buy the SGS2/Nexus 3. Even though the Epic is an awesome phone and I love it, I think the Nexus is a better fit in this situation.

I honestly don't know what I'm going to do... I had pretty much decided on the Nexus S 4G until I read a ton of information saying the Nexus S 4G has horrible reception... I may just go with the EPIC now. The Nexus would be a no-brainer for me at this point, but I have to be able to talk on the phone and use it for data etc etc etc

Well he's buying a phone to hold him over till he gets the Galaxy S 2.... and the Epic 4G is Sprints version of the Galaxy S.

I may just end up getting the Epic 4G. While I would prefer the Nexus as a handset I must be able to make calls reliably because it's my *only* phone. I don't have a land-line to fall back on.

You can't really "go wrong" with either. So I may just take the safer route especially since it's just to tide me over to the SGSII. I'm just not the type to gamble...

personally i would wait for the evo 3d. if it is anything like the original evo (which i absolutely love), it should be one heck of a phone with the 1.2gz dual core processor. the 3d aspect i could careless about. but words just cannot explain how much i love my evo. i rooted my phone 6 months or so and it seems like every week i have a new phone to play with (i'm a flashohlic). if you threw in the 3d's dual core processor, whew!!!!!! beast of a phone. i cant wait to see what the devs do to this phone.

Well, I'm headed to the store now and I honestly don't know which phone I'll pick. Logic tells me the Nexus S signal issues will be fixed eventually... doubt tells me to just go the safe route and get the Epic. I'll try to check this forum post one more time at the store before I make a final choice... if anyone has any last minute advice. I'll gladly take it.

Good luck. I'm sure you'll be happy with either choice.

It's a long story... and I don't want to get into it. I didn't get home with either. The retailer rescinded their offer to give me a free phone when I arrived at the store.
