TxGoat recently suggested the multiple antenna segments in the Rezound's rear case as an explanation for the phone's excellent connection performance.

Has anybody noticed any worse wireless behavior after installing the 2750 extended battery with its less metallic replacement cover? I'm planning to take advantage of the VZW 50% off battery deal if there's no downside. TIA!

I don't think I have ever had lower performance with it on.

I just did a test I got 23mb/s up and 8mb/s down. :) The external battery really is nice.

When you get it look at the price. I think some say $50 and some say $60. Try to get the $50 one so it's only $25 and not $30. The guy said it was marked wrong, but I still made him give me the battery for $25 and not $30.

I have been concerned about the lack of metal in the inductive back as well. It's also a bit thicker than the original back and lacks the metal much like the extended cover. I've had the inductive back on my Rez for a couple of weeks now and have not noticed any degradation of signal. But... I've wondered about it.

Hmmmmm, good find. Wonder if that problem was due to Trexcell not being antenna-savvy: Amazon reviews on their extended phone batteries have many complaints of "great battery, crappy cover."

I'm leaning toward getting the 2750, as it's HTC brand sold through VZW outlets, and this isn't their first rodeo.

    Excellent, thx maximus!

BTW, one reason I'm leaning toward getting the extended is that taking the stock back off almost requires a crowbar on my phone, and I don't want to be stuck in a crisis needing to swap batteries and breaking the damn cover. On a related note, it's a pleasure that my reliable Rezound does not require battery pulls as a standard recovery technique. ;)

Was it ever shown online? I thought it was storefront-only availability.

Good to know. We should contact Anandtech and have them run all the battery and cover combinations through their paces.

Ohhhhhhhh shoot. I remember buying an aftermarket cover for an old LG VX-4400. It required that you carefully transplant the copper and spongy glued strips from the stock to the replacement cover. Is it possible that's what you're supposed to do w/the Rezound's extended battery cover?

Okay, here are side-by-side images of the stock and extended covers, with the latter lightened for visibility. It looks as if the stock copper strips could be transplanted into the extended cover the way I did on my old VX-4400. But you don't think that's what we're supposed to do here?

I was about to jump on the Rezound bandwagon but this gives me pause. I'm gonna need that extended battery but no antenna strips? That's gotta make a difference. If someone could test signal strength with it on and off that would be great. Especially in low signal areas. BTW, the manager I think is getting sick of seeing me at the local Verizon store playing with their Nexus, my Nexus and the Rezound. And I found they are not helpful at all.

    Found this at The Verge:

HTC Rezound 2750mAh extended battery is gigantic | The Verge

'The battery comes with a cover to accommodate its girth which matches the original's textured back but does away with the Beats Audio branding. The back is especially important because the antenna for the Rezound is built into it

I was thinking if swapping my copper tape from the regular cover over to the extended cover.

But then.... I noticed that the extended cover has more copper/antenna tape then the standard one.

The extended battery cover has more, it is just painted black.

here is a pic with them side by side, i just painted the extended cover antenna area, cause it is hard to see if you dont have one in hand.
you can thank me for my beautiful art work ;)

and yes that is a extended thunderbolt battery, i use 2 ext TB batteries and 1 ext Rezound battery. i charge them on a external wall charger and swap them as i need em.
and i dont have any battery/power issues

Are you serious? Someone on XDA said the same thing, but I couldn't see any indication of painted antenna in the extended cover I just bought.

Also I'm having some serious concerns about connection performance now. With a strong 3G and 4G connection the speeds seemed about as fast as before, but in the VZW store it took several minutes before forced 3G would connect (after 4G was immediate). At home I'm getting awful numbers, and SpeedTest had long pauses several times. Coming out of airplane mode I got 4G briefly before it switched down to 3G.

I'll try to put together reliable numbers at the end of the weekend, but right now I'm not convinced the extended battery is viable.

i havent seen the post/thread on xda, but yeah if i had a extra ext battery cover that i didnt care about id take the antenna tape out.

just look at it closely and you will see all of it.look at my pic and look at your ext cover so you have an idea of where to look

I had similar issue. I called Verizon technical support for an ongoing problem concerning network issues with 4g to 3g and vice versa on my end. After all the troubleshooting, from master reset, sim exchange, data "refervision", phone exchange, trouble ticket...it ddnt.make any diff. Verizon even said that the problem can't be fix and I need to cancel my service and switch carriers. A little frustrated I had an idea in mind that after all the trouble looking for a fix, I thought that it could be some antenna issue like the infamous iphone 4 antenna. so I did a little test bet the stock and extended cover, I conclude on my side that even with the stock cover I have experienced similar issue with the signal/ network becoming unstable and at some point no network data at all, though this problem is much worse on the extended battery. Hopefuly there's a fix on this one soon

Today I returned the extended battery, and external battery dock, as I too had problems with signal. When ever I would swap out my standard for the exteneded, the LTE sim card would lose provisioning, and phone would go into a perpetual boot loop mode. I actualy had my phone replace because of this. when I got my second phone, and it happened again, I realized that it was a combination of the extended battery door, and having LTE disabled why swapping battery. I am only using the standard now, and it works fine.
