Help 3g icon missing

my 3g icon is missing this morning, the weird thing is my wife's phone is not having this issue.
anyone missing their 3g icon this morning?

Hold down power button. Press airplane mode. Wait 15 seconds. Press airplane mode again.
Problem solved.

There have been some outages here and there. In that case the airplane mode trick will not work.

yeah it would appear they did some system updates that caused sporadic outages... yesterday i had no mobile data at all in the afternoon... by evening i was able to get 1x and an hour or two later 3G was back
