3G Not Working

I'm onto my 3rd Android phone now & have been experiencing a problem with all the devices where the phone won't (or at best is reluctant) to download data over a 3G signal.

I've previously had the HTC Hero, HTC Desire & now the Galaxy S2, but all have the same problem.

Whether I use an app or the browser & the 3G symbol is in the top corner data doesn't download. Occasionally after a couple of minutes the data will work, but generally I get an error message.

Sometimes the phone will switch across to the HSPA signal & that works fine and at an acceptable speed. Wifi also works well.

My HTC handsets were with Orange & my S2 is with o2. Has anyone had any issues with this & found solutions?

Thanks, but not sure if that's the issue. That post suggests that a connection is being made, but I think my problem is to do with a connection not being made to the internet.

Might have to try rooting, just for the fun, to see if that does anything.

Rooting won't solve your problem as such.

    What is your signal strength?
(to find out:- Go to Settings > About phone > Status >Signal strength + Mobile network type)

I have had problems with my connection to data but its pretty much related to my area of work, at home its on HSDPA ,
signal strength 101 dBm 6 asu
at work I can barely get the 'G' symbol.
    I am on o2 contract.

Well, that's a pretty good signal strength, 4 bars?

There is an app, free on the Market, called Speed Test that you can use to see what your Download and Upload speeds are. Need to use it at different times of the day to get an accurate overall picture.

Yeah, my signal strength isn't a problem. It just seems a reluctance to connect over 3G. The up arrow keeps on being lit, but nothing ever comes down on the down arrow.

But this is only on 3G. GPRS, EDGE & HSPA all work fine :S

I have this exact same problem. am in Orange Uk and also used to have it when I had my HTC hero, also on Orange.

never found a fix and because it's so intermittent it's hard to show in the Orange shop! I felt your pain though and that dreaded 3G symbol with just green up arrow and no down orange arrow!!!

I'm on orange so can't compare.
Perhaps someone on O2 on here can check for you, but those settings look pretty reasonable to me.

A quick search on here found this:

Cheers Hawker, I wont be changing my settings to the other one, as there seems to be a separate issue with o2 throttling wifi speeds over the proxy.
