A few weeks ago I upgrade my S3 fw to 4.1.2 today I connected it Kies to backup files and it said a new fw update was avaliable. So I updated my phone, it took a bit of time so I thought it was something major, but when i restarted my phone and checked the fw it still says 4.1.2 so what, if anything has changed, I cant see anything different

Also, where can I find out whats included in these latest updates. Keis only says if theres an update avaliable but not what it adds or improves, if it did, then I could then decide if I want the update or not as when its updated its bloody hard to go back.!

If I am wrong then sorry but here goes.

First not sure what you really mean or see when you say Firmware. You keep talking about the Android Operating System which is 4.1.2 for you. On my phone I can't even see firmware number listed. I do see a check for update but only tells me I am up to date. I also have a Software Update in settings.

Your BIOS is firmware (in current usage). So I suspect your firmware was updated and as expected that would not change your OS version.

    Your OS is software.

It is a "fix" for the Screen of Death that plague the international S3.

Unproved. There's no evidence yet. The rumour mill is turning on this but the new sboot so far only proven to make flash counter harder to reset....

Many Devs are looking for evidence of this "sudden death fix" but its really only hear say at this point

Edit > just read that article. The Exynos memory exploit is a completely different issue to the sudden death issue. Well done cnet on talking complete bollocks ha ha

The article mixes two issues as one calling it "sudden death security flaw", however "sudden death" and "security flaw" are different.

There's a rumour the sboot packaged in LLA is a fix for sudden death however it appears to be a way of making more rooted people have a void warranty.

As for whether it fixes the security flaw, it may well do.

Problem is, Samsung don't really release change logs so often (including this time) we never really know for sure.
