AT&T finally rolled out JB 4.1.2 for the S3 (southeast, MI). HOWEVER, stock messaging app still not a capable of group-chatting (still sends out and receives individual messages to all thread recipients) and third party apps such as gosms get completely bogged down; freezing sometimes for 30 seconds or more. ANDROID HAS LOST MY BUSINESS FOREVER!

Multi-View is cool, new camera features are cool, yet still cant work out groupchat on a flagship device. Just terrible!!

Not going to ask everyone in the thread to use a separate app because I was the only one who decided not to get a compatible device.

Touche on the, "don't hate android; hate what Samsung did to it."
You're right, not all Android devices aren't compatible.

I will amend to: SAMSUNG HAS FOREVER LOST MY BUSINESS!

    Yes Group sms.

Example: John, Tom, and Bob all attempting to be in in one group thread. John has S3, Tom and Bob have iphone. John sends text to Tom and Bob in group thread. Tom and Bob receive separate texts from John outside of their group thread.

Tom and Bob send texts in their group thread. John on his S3 receives individual messages from Tom and Bob outside of his group thread of the three friends.

All the while Tom and Bob are enjoying a nicely condensed conversation in one thread, and John has now gone from being a great friend to an outcast who eventually, moves into a van down by the river by himself, and dies a lonely death. All due to no longer being included in his friends activity, because texting them in their group has made him an annoyance.

Long story short: there is no merging of groups on S3 stock messenger; which from what I have gathered is one of the only devices not capable of this. Given the power of the S3 it is very peculiar as to why, when much inferior devices are capable.

Right.. tbh me and my friends have never used sms for group chatting on so idk. Have you tried a 3rd party sms app?

Yes, I mentioned that above. GoSms is generally considered the top 3rd party app for such features, and it gets completely bogged down, sometimes freezing for 30 seconds or more. Also will lag the keyboard from disappearing when switching back to home-screen.

Try the ATT messenger app that came with your phone. It does a fine job with group texting. I just wished you could customize the way it looks more. It handles voice mail really well also.

Use GroupME. It has an app but really that is only needed to set up a group, so only the person starting group needs to use it. It works over SMS so basically anyone who can send text messages can participate in the chat.
