4G Status Bar Icon Flashing When on WIFI

Went from a GS5 to a GS7. I just noticed that when connected to wifi, the 4G icon in the status bars grays out at first, but then it flashes briefly every 6 seconds. If I turn off mobile data, it stops flashing. So why when I am on wifi is the 4G flashing every 6 seconds? Is it still using mobile data? Is there a settings someplace to stop this other than turning off mobile data? It is very annoying to see the 4G symbol flashing at me the whole time I am using the device.

i thought of that too, and already turned it off. But the 4g light still flashes every 6 seconds while on wifi.

My battery says 50% was used by cell standby over the past 18 hours. not sure if that was because of the 4G pinging every 6 seconds? The battery seemed to drop like a rock yesterday, which was not like the first week I had it.

By chance, I just restarted by GS7 for the fist time in a few days, and now the 4G light stopped flashing every 6 seconds while on WiFi.

The flashing 4G icon just means its having issues keeping a stable connection, i.e not even a poor signal, it can't lock on to it. Which probably explains your nose dive in battery.
