I got a new router for home that is dual band at 2.4GHz and 5GHz. My wife's GNex sees the 5GHz but my Razr does not. She has a setting that can select either or Auto. Is that an ICS feature? In my searching, a post suggested checking that setting on Wireless Advanced, but I've not found that option yet. Please advise. And Happy New Years, all.

Nobody?? Am I missing something painfully obvious (wouldn't be the first time) or does nobody know?

I have no idea (at least it's something... Completely not useful though). :(

Wireless-N has the ability to support connection over both 2.4ghz and 5ghz frequencies. Because 2.4ghz and 5ghz require the use of different radios, not all wireless routers have this ability. You typically need to look for a "dual band" router to get this.

The 5ghz standard is less common as 5ghz was the frequency used by old Wireless-A access points. Not all devices have the additional radio installed in them in order for them to support and use 5ghz. My guess is that the GNex has both 2.4ghz and 5ghz radios in it... while the Razr has only a 2.4ghz radio.

What's interesting is that there seems to be bug reports filed with Google regarding the 5ghz support on the GNex:

Issue 23296 - android - NO 5GHz WIFI Support on THE GALAXY NEXUS -> tested with 3 different AP -> still no connection - Android - An Open Handset Alliance Project - Google Project Hosting
Issue 22474 - android - Limited support for 5GHz Wifi - Android - An Open Handset Alliance Project - Google Project Hosting
Issue 1296 - android-wifi-tether - Galaxy Nexus - 5ghz Support? - Wireless Tether for Root Users - Google Project Hosting

Based on these reports it looks like the smartphone see's the SSID being broadcast over 5ghz but may not be able to connect to it.

Not all wireless N adapters support the 5ghz. The Razr only supports 2.4
