So I bought a used Droid X. It had the 2.3.3 OTA Verizon release. I tried z4root, and Gingerbreak with no avail. I tried using RSD lite to flash a SBF that I downloaded here: https://sites.google.com/site/1kdsdroidx/ and I was able to flash (using 3.04 bootloader) but then none of the apps would click, nor would any of the hard buttons on the phone work.
I just tried to reflash to Verizon official sbf (from above link) and my phone goes to the lockscreen on bootup and then when I unlock I get a blackscreen. Thus phone is unusable.

    HELP!
I am new to rooting, and I've worked pretty hard googleing around and doing all I can, so now I turn to all my new friends here. I switched from the iPhone and had no problem jailbreaking...this is way more difficult.

My DX is alive! It's aliiiiiive! I didn't know about the factory reset part of the equation, which might have made all the difference before...On to root!

if yo SBFd to .340, yes, Z4 will work for you. after that, get Droid2 bootstrapper then get the two-part GB .596 and you're set! good luck and welcome to the Android forums!

Don't worry about it. Just get yourself droid 2 bootstrapper and install it. Then download the two part gingerbread .596 release from here,

Official DX Gingerbread 2.3.3 (4.5.596) Release Thread - Something for everyone

Follow method two for flashing the two files. Follow the directions TO THE LETTER and you will be on rooted gingerbread within minutes. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

If you have changed any of the bloatware, the update will download and try to install, but it will fail. It should not have a negative effect on your phone (at least that has been my experience). It happened a couple of times for me with the OTA 2.3.3 update until I upgraded manually to a rooted version.

Im at 2.3.340 rooted with several root permission programs, should I get in my apps and rename Items that I stopped from running by using BAK in the rename. so you saying is I use the correct bootstrapper I can go straight from 340 to Gingerbread?

I have never used a bootstrapper
