Hello all! I'm a newly registered user, and frequent lurker. I hate to make my first post a cry for help but I'm beyond confused. I spent the past 4 hours reading and searching for answers but I can not find the answers I'm looking for. I've had my Evo since December 2010 (was using Samsung Moment prior to). It has been a wonderful phone until recently.

Problem #1 is battery life. My phone has been off the wall charger for 4 hours and my battery is at about 40%. I have sent five text messages, viewed two emails, and made three phone calls totaling between 10-15 minutes. My 4G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth are turned OFF. I dont run any fancy or crazy apps. I would be willing to bet I have only downloaded 10-15 apps on top of what comes factory installed. My battery used to last 9-10 hours without needing a charge. Now I need to almost keep it plugged in to make it last through the day.

Problem #2- I no longer hear a tone when I dial phone numbers or use the key pad. I can adjust every other sound or tone but I cant figure that one out.

Problem #3- I downloaded ATK thinking it would help to trim some fat off my battery consumption. I havent noticed any difference in battery life. I have noticed that if I kill everything that is shown to be running, within 2 minutes, those apps are running again. Is this normal? Could it be part of a deeper problem?

My cellphone is a key component in helping me run my business. I work from the seat of my truck. I cant afford to be without a phone. My only saving grace is the rooted Samsung Moment I use to tether my laptop. I would GREATLY appreciate any and all help.

Thanks in advance! This place is an Android heaven!

I bet if you UNINSTALLED the app killer your battery life would improve.

For the phone, try menu-->settings-->sound-->feedback and check the settings.

My battery life has not changed since installing ATK. I tried that in hopes it would make a difference. I've tried the second recommendation. Doesnt fix the problem.

I forgot to mention in my OP, I'll come out of voicemail screen to the home screen and it will want me to rearrange icons. I dont try rearranging them, it just does it. Weird stuff. I cant even begin to explain this stuff.

Coming back to a "rearrange" screen means that when you selected the voicemail icon it registers itvas a selection and then as a "I want to move this" selection. Make your selections lighter and quicker.

For touch tones go to menu.settings.sound.audible touch tones. If it set as long or short.....there is some other problem. Most likely it is off.

For battery life uninstall atk for the time being. Uninstall compass if you have it. Dload spare parts from the market and follow the directions in the numerous battery threads.

It isnt the VM icon. I access my VM through the notification screen. It is a random icon. Not always the same one.
Its ON, been ON. Tried long and short tones. I cant find a way to turn it off, so I really cant imagine I turned it off.

Is it possible that the software corrupts or can you pick up a virus or something? Things were GREAT then all of the sudden things went silly. It was like day & night.

I dont know if this makes a difference or not but when I go to 'Running Services' just about every app I have is running. I stop them and they start back up just minutes later. Some apps like Qik, I have never ever used. I'll try the spare parts thing.....

My new Evo does sooo many wacky crazy things every day that I feel stupid repeating any of it to my local Sprint store ... I've owned it for 2 weeks and not one of those days has been a "normal" day! :(

The selections are short long or off

Those things running are supposed to be running. Read the battery threads

Coming back to a screen of "move items" means that you did what I said above....I have big hands ....it happens to me all the time.

If none of the above correct things try a hard reset. If that doesn't fix it take it in to a repair center.

Spend some time reading through tips and tricks and beyond the first few pages of the troubleshooting forum. Learn how the search function works.

Your phone may be defective....or you just need to take more time in learning what it is capable of.

Like I said in my last post, Im not long pressing any of the buttons. I also know what the selections are and have tried all three. I have spent a good part of the past few days reading battery threads. I'm not an expert by any stretch and would be here asking questions if I was but give me a little more credit..... Maybe I should have pointed out that this battery issue along with the dialpad tone thing all seemed to happen over night. I was easily getting 10-12 hours with moderate use. I was even tethering my laptop with my Evo hoping to get better speeds. Never had any issues. All of the sudden this crap starts. Like I said in OP, I tether my Moment ALL DAY (minimum 8 hours) and I only need to charge every other day or so. I took my phone off charge today at 7AM, by 11AM it was below 50% with 15 texts, check email once, 15 minutes of calls, check one VM.

I was just hoping to find some easy answers here instead of dropping my phone off to sprint for half a day. And God knows how that's gonna go....

Wow, 5th? Sorry to hear that.

I have not tried to hard reset. I was thinking of doing that but wasn't sure if it would get rid of whatever's jacking me up. What all's involved with the hard reset? Will I need to have my phone re-activated or anything?

    no reactivation needed.
    it does erase everything though.

power on the phone while pressing the volume down...select factory data reset

you can also do it from menu.security but some have reported the other method works better.

I haven't seen you mention it, but sometimes things just get "stuck" and you can't find the answer no matter how deep in settings you go. Especially with something running away with your battery life. A few questions, does your phone feel warmer than usual? Do you have any widget to monitor battery temp.? Sometimes for inexplicable reasons your phone may decide to be a true Android and do it's own thing. Might I suggest before any extreme measures just taking the back off, pulling the battery and letting it sit for a minute. Put the battery back in and reboot. An excellent app as well is "Android Assistant". This will allow you to see what is running at start up and allow you to stop certain "load at start" programs. What it can't stop, it will tell you and you can stop them by going to Applications>Manage Applications>Running (then touch the app. you don't want running and force close it). Try those things first and see if you get any better battery life. With Froyo, the system is much less amicable to task killers, but will allow you to manually stop programs in the above described fashion. Lastly, make it point to see what's running after a reboot to save you and your battery a lot of grief. Hope this helps, good luck.

BTW am still on my release date Evo and have done some pretty inconceivable things to it and it is still running better than new. :)

I have never really checked the battery temp. I have (many times) pulled the battery, let it sit for a few minutes, then reinstall and restart phone. None of that made any difference. I have gone in and taken a look at what is/was running. I would stop things and they would restart in their own. That is what prompted me to download ATK. My hope was it would show what was running, let me stop it and ATK would keep it stopped. Didnt happen. When I would go into settings and check what was consuming battery, I would notice Android was always the highest consumption BY FAR. I can only assume there was a 'run-a-way' app or something screwy.

I did at one point download a battery monitor app. I removed it after noticing my battery was dying faster with that app running. That may have been the actual time I noticed the battery life taking a crap. I really cant recall when the dial pad tone disappeared. I did a hard reset this AM. So far, so good. I'm slowly adding apps back to my phone. So far my battery usage is primarily Cell Standby at 30%. Android is at about 15%. I hope this does the trick.

I have the same problem with the dial tones when dialing a call- It is very irritating. They were there one day, then after work when I went off of silent mode, they were gone! They came back once and then disappeared agian. My Evo seems to have an attitude of its own!

I did a hard reset yesterday. Today my phone had moderate use. 14 hours after coming off the charger I still got 40% on my battery. Guess I must have downloaded something bad.

Took a phone call while playing golf yesterday. About 7-8 minutes into conversation my Evo reset itself. I did so to the point that it even changed my wallpaper and my phone log cleared out. Weird, huh?

Mine did the same thing today, and was stuck in the reboot cycle for 20 minutes before I pulled the battery. I called Sprint, who said that they would not be sending me another device because i've "had too many" devices. (Yes I have had devices replaced for many different reasons) Guess I'm stuck with an Evo with an attitude.

You two have really strange issues for sure. I have about 15 friends here locally with evos and 1 has had a reboot issue and the local sprint store replaced her phone on the spot. I have had 6 replacements now ......all manufacturing issues. Nothing hardware related like reboots etc.
