Hi, usually at home I connect my GNote to the MacBook Pro via usb for charging. Whenever I try to share data between the two devices, I follow these steps:

    1. Go to Wireless and network->USB utilities
    2. Click "Connect storage to PC". A window shows up.
"Attention. USB is connected. Remove the cable"
    3. Unplug the usb cable connecting the Note and the laptop.
    Click OK.
    4. When "USB mass storage. Tape the button below to copy files between
computer and SD card" shows up, click "Connect storage to PC."
    5. A window shows up saying "USB utilities. Connect USB cable to use
mass storage." At this point, I reconnect the usb cable.
    6. "USB connected. You have connected your phone to your computer
via USB. Select the button below if you want to copy files between
your computer and your Android's USB storage" shows up.
    Click "Connect USB storage".
    7. The green Android turns orange. Then, on my desktop, two
"NO NAME" icons show up. One for the phone and the other
    for the external sd cards.
    8. After usage, I reject both "NO NAME" icons and click
    "Disconnect storage from PC"
    9. The green android shows up again. I just click the home button
to do whatever I like with the phone.

    My questions are:

    Q1: Is this procedure correct?
Q2: Why I have to unplug and plug the usb cable/device?
Q3: What is the proper order of unmounting the two "NO NAME"?
Q4: Is it advisable to rename the two "NO NAME"?
If so, shall I just do it on the desktop of my PC or somehow
change the name of the Galaxy Note and the external sd card?

    Thank you.

Q1: Apart from the fact that I don’t start with a connected USB cable, this is the procedure I use. So, we are either both correct or both wrong ;)
Q2: I am no expert, but I assume it has something to do with the fact that the phone enters MTP mode whenever you connect it to the computer. I guess the two modes are incompatible so the disconnect is required.
    Q3: It doesn't matter.
Q4: I can't imagine that renaming the volumes would hurt, I just don't expect it to work. I guess the volume names are simply not emulated by the software of the phone.

    Hope this helps...

I did the same thing you have outlined, and I was able to transfer files from phone to PC. Recently I tried it and the android man had disappeared. I don't start with the cable connected, I used to connect it when it told me to connect the cable. Now I click "connect storage to PC" and I connect the USB cable and it says "USB is connected Remove the cable". What have I done incorrectly and where did my android man who used to turn from green to orange go? Thank for any assistance.
