Currently I'm running 2.1 rooted with some of the bloatware removed.

What is the best way for me to get from 2.1 rooted to 2.2 rooted?

1.) Back up everything that you want to save, such as media.

2.) Restore the bloatware by simply restoring it, (rename extensions back to .apk if you changed them to .bak, or actually put them back if you removed them) or by flashing the SBF with RSD Lite. If you need the SBF file, PM me. NOTE: If you don't flash the SBF and instead just put the bloatware back as it was, it's recommended that you wipe everything via a factory reset and possibly an SD card format.

3.) Pull the 2.3.15 OTA update and install it.

4.) Once you've updated and booted up, root your device via the Droid 2 method.

Let us know if you need something explained or just some more help.

Will performing a factory reset reinstall the apps that I removed? I remember there used to be a sticky with the original apps but I can't find it now

Reread please. I never said you need to do it. I said it's recommended. I've read a few posts here and there about people being stuck or having problems with the update. They wiped and formatted their memory card and it promptly fixed their issues. An application could very well be storing app data on your SD card and interfering with the update since they were created while on 2.1.

It's a recommendation and suggestion, not a requirement.

I don't actively use a google acct. Maybe that's why I'm not having problems??
I don't use gmail, although I set one up originally.
I use Yahoo and have no problems with it.
As far as a 'google accnt' I really don't know if it's 'set up'.

I do have to login occasionally with a google accnt to access some sites though.

Hope this doesn't confuse people, as it does have me confused a bit.
