Been reading the info about partitioning sd card in the guide. I got Mik3db1 because I read it supports a2sd.

I partitioned a the original EVO 8g card, made a 2 gig partition, flashed Mik3d beta1 and put TB on the card as well. I didn't install and use the DT because for some reason I was thinking that since M3db1 supported a2sd, when I reinstalled the apps to a card that had the ext partition that they would automatically be put on the ext partition.

I can use tb to batch move apps to the sd partition and I can go into apps and tell them to move to sd card.

I see that approx half of the app goes onto the sd card and tb shows the ext getting some activity.

That isn't what I expected to happen. I thought it would happen more or less automatically and that more of the app would be moved. The rom runs fine though and the I tried maps with it on the card, and it worked fine, even though it is a lower class card. No lag i could discern.

Now i am going to try again with dt and follow the guide and see if that works as I expected it to.

Edit: Are you supposed to put all your apps on the phone then flash dt? No way.

I flashed it, it ran really fast, then rebooted. Didn't see much in extention. still had option to put stuff in from managing apps and TB, but still see significant amounts left on card.

So, what is up with all of this, please, one of you evo tweakers extraordinaire?

the ideal way is to partition your card first then flash the rom. i had no issues on mik3d with my card partitioned. once i restored my apps with tb they were all installed to the card with no issues.

with dt you need terminal emulator to run the script and enter a command to move the apps. you can also check if dt is working by typing the command a2sd check.

I take full responsibility for it not working, just can't figure out why.

it was a freshly partitioned card and a new flash of the rom.

I did use a terminal emulator and Issued the cmds, except for the checking one. it put up some writing and was gone, I figured it had done it's thing.

'managing apps' still showed that the apps that came with the rom were available to be moved to sd.

i moved some of the apps individually and then the size of the app would appear to halve. i assumed half would go to the card.

Put tbpro back on the phone and went to do a batch restore of apps, it seems to have backed up a lot of the previous rom's apps as well. was hesitant to put those on this rom as I didn't know if they were compatible.

I told tb to put them right onto the card, I think, Not sure if they went unto card or into partition I made on card.

I thought that the native rom apps would have been moved by activating dt. I also thought it would move more of the app to the card.

pulled up a nandroid of M3dB1 and saw that same option was there to move to sd w/o flashing dt, it acted the same way when I did.

Maybe I should try it again. :D

well in mik3d it has a2sd installed already and when you restore your apps with tb, they should be restored onto the sd card. there is no need to enter commands. also with tb, it is sort of doing what apps2sd does. it only moves part of the rom over, but it will not move them to the ext partition of your card. you can do both if you like, but i like all of my apps on the card.

Ok, thanks, I thought i understood this before but apparently i only thought I did. Nothing new there, ask me about women. :)

Do I have to flash dt onto Mik3db1 at all, or not?

Or are you saying flash dt onto it but don't use the terminal emulator to enter commands after I do flash it?

What about the 'apps' that come with the rom already? How come they show that I can move them to sd but haven't moved themselves unto the partition themselves? How come they only get about half moved when I do tell tehm to go?

mik3d has it built in. just restore with tb and they should move automatically.

you do not need dt for this rom. checkout the op it will either say that has a2sd built in which usually means it is cm a2sd. or it will say that it has dt a2sd.

you can use tb to move them to the card is you like, but it is different the a2sd. moving apps through the manage apps in your phone's settings or with tb uses apps2sd. they are totally different on how they move apps to the card.

Cool! Thanks again for the info, gonna give it a try right now.

So is there any way to get the rom's native apps moved to sd card the a2sd way vs the apps2sd card way they are offering, short of backing them all up with tb, freezing, uninstalling then restoring them with tbpro? If that would even work?

not sure why you would want to do that. the rom for me and my 160 apps on the card, i had still 200mb left. and that is with the apps that come included with the rom. i guess the only way is with tb or install dt and move them that way. i never worry about apps included with the rom.

Well, Mr Brze, :) that worked. I restored the apps i have dl'd from market with tbpro and they show up moving my little SD card a2sd slider over. got 370MB free internal now. This has just been for fun, not sure if my original evo card is really fast enough to support this. i don't play games though, so that isn't a factor.

TB has got a lot of stuff backed up from other roms on it, apps native to them but not included in this rom. Would they play nice if 'restored' to this rom generally speaking, or is it a case by case thing?

What was the story re: having widgets on sd card?

also, what are Profiles in tb?

    Thanks again!

it will depend on the rom and what it is will determine if they play nice. you might want to make a nandroid backup just in case.

with apps2sd you can use widgets when they are moved to the card. however, that is not the case with a2sd. it mainly has to do that the apps2sd only moves part of the app making widgets not very easy to use since the app is split in two. while a2sd keeps the apps whole on the card.

also i have never used profiles for tb. not exactly sure what they do.

I think you left off a t in the third sentence but the sense is clear, a2sd, widgets good, apps2sd, not good.

i'll have to check out that profiles thing.

Ok not trying to jack the thread but it is related so here goes. I finally partitioned my card and did the ext2 to ext3 thing. usb toggled the phone and placed the contents of the card back on there, then i flashed the dtapps2sd zip and rebooted. So how do i get to all my apps that im guessing are now on the card. I dont have the market app to download TB and I dont have TE anymore to run any terminal commands. Did I screw up somewhere????

no wiping will not effect your partition, unless you wipe sd ext then your apps will be erased. but your partition will still be there. the only way to get rid of your partitions is to re-format your card.
they should be fine if you do a restore in titanium backup.

I tried to download TB from the market along with TE and the download starts but never shows up on my phone. I dont even have the market app on my phone so i tried downloading it from my phones browser and my pc with no luck. Now i know i can just do a nandroid but it wont help me in figuring out what went wrong.

you need to have the market regardless on your phone so just wipe dalvik cache, cache and re-flash the rom.
