About to sell my Galaxy S8

I have had my Galaxy S8 for about a day now after upgrading from Nexus 5. The new features are nice but I'm finding this thing extremely hard and uncomfortable to hold. I am still waiting for my silicone case from China to arrive.

I absolutely hate the curved edges on the phone and am not sure why anyone would make such a design. My Nexus 5 had flat edges which were much easier and comfortable to hold. I am hoping the case I buy will fix this issue or maybe I can find a case with flat edges?

The glass back is another stupid idea as well as the curved display. The glass back adds weight and makes it slippery. A simple plastic back would have been fine. The curved edges makes text run off at weird angles and is simply a gimmick. Other than having notifications on the side when used as clock on nightstand and for marketing videos, I don't see any point in this. It will be covered up by case and if not will make it more breakable.

The length of the phone is not right. The proportion is wrong. It looks more like a candy bar shape than a shape of a phone. When I reach my thumb from bottom to top, I come up about a half an inch down from top unless I really stretch thumb can't reach top. It should have been maybe half an inch shorter for looks and functionality.

Has anyone else had such complaints for these issues or gotten past them? I am seriously consider selling and going back to Nexus 5 until I can find a suitable replacement.

Surely with such a high cost for a mobile did you not test the water beforehand?

No, I tested in the store for short period of time. I can't wait in store holding for hours to test.

You can't always get a feel for a phone by playing with it in a shop before hand. Sometimes you'll only notice real annoyances after a few days/weeks of use.

I respect El Presidente's comments but the observations made by the poster in my view I would not have thought needed hours to test it to come to the conclusion that he has.

Has anyone gotten use to these annoyances or figured out a way of making the phone more easy to hold?

I had no wish to offend and if taken that way, I apologise.
I personally have had every incarnation of the Galaxy S series with the exception of the S5 and I have found the S8 is far superior to anything before and I do not usually praise items to all and sundry.
Once again apologies to you that I hope you accept.

I am just finding it annoying the trends that have been happening with Apple doing curved edges then nearly everyone else doing same now. It sort of makes phone very hard to hold without case. My choices were pretty limited because looking for Snapdragon 835 phone with similar to width of my previous Nexus 5. There aren't that many phones available yet with this and Galaxy 8 mostly fits the bill. I suppose a case will resolve some of these issues.

Well I can see the OP's points, and have to say that on looking at the S8's design, it does seem a little impractical, e.g glass covering is vulnerable to shattering. Although not having owned one myself, I can't say for sure whether I'd like it or not. And having to place it in a case to make it easier to hold, well if that's true, then it really is a victim of form over function. Beautiful design it may be, but this is an everyday utility item, and must be comfortable to hold and use.
But all I can say is, I'll be sticking with my trusty Nexus 5, as it's proved to be extremely reliable, and it's a nice shape to hold.

I have had the S8 for about 2-1/2 months and I like the form factor. Based on rumors about the Apple iPhone 8 and the LG V30, it may be the future of smartphones. I like everything about the S8 except the location of the fingerprint scanner and I can't comment on TouchWiz because I have always used Nova Prime on my phones.

I've had a Galaxy S7 for about a year, absolutely loved the phone. For some reason, the fast charging quit working (regular charging still worked). I wanted to get it fixed but my employer, who owns the phone, told me I could get a new Galaxy S8 to replace it. Before I said OK, I decided to go to the Verizon store and see one in person. Once I saw it and handled it, I said nope, not for me. I went back to my employer and told them I wanted another Galaxy S7 not an S8. I just got a new S7 a couple days ago.

Although I'm holding out for something that suits me better, if my phone failed today and I had to buy a replacement on the spot it would be the S8. The width is far more important to me than the height, and I set a Nova gesture to pull the notifications down (and don't fill my homescreens with apps) so for me the height isn't a big problem. Anyway I can't hold my current (small by today's standards) phone securely and reach the top of the screen one-handed without shuffling it down in my hand, so there's no real loss for me there.

The curved edges are a negative for me. But as for a plastic back, that ship is long gone: whatever the technical merits, in the minds of the public and of reviewers plastic = cheap, and that's not good enough at current flagship prices.

Going to test a S8+ out... Thinking of getting one with Xfinity mobile.

I'll have to go to Best buy or somewhere and try it.
