This is just something I wanted for myself. It's fairly easy to figure out, but I thought I would post it in case other people wanted it.

First off, you WILL need LauncherPro installed.

    1) On your homescreen, click Menu -> Add
    2) Choose Shortcuts -> Activities
    3) Find "Desk Home" and expand that menu.
    4) Select "Desk Home" (com.motorola.dlauncher.DLauncher)
    5) Name if what you wish, I kept the default name.

Congratulations! You now have a link to the Desk Clock app on your home screen!
Great for your home made docks, or if you have a case with a built in kick stand.

You do have LauncherPro installed, and you are on the LauncherPro homescreen, correct?

It should be there after clicking Add -> Shortcuts

These instructions worked using "GO Launcher EX" launcher, but this could work for others. I did a search in the market for an application that could create shortcuts to activities - QuickShortcutMaker was the first I found, I am sure there are others.

    1) Install "QuickShortcutMaker" ( Market Link at the end of these directions )
    2) Run "QuickShortcutMaker"

3a) Car Dock: Scroll down to the section with the "CarDock" options and choose the one that has "SmartMode".
    or
3b) Desk Dock: Scroll down and find "Desk Home" there should only be one option, choose it

You may get a Force Close, but so far I have been able to ignore that without impact.

I got it to work through LauncherPro but I also have Go Launcher, now I can add it using that Launcher...
Now an issues arrives, when I leave the Desk Dock my screen has a strip on top and bottom that seem not to refresh so it gets really ugly...
    Any ideas?

Mine did that once. Simply sliding the keyboard open, then closed fixed it.
