Help Adaptor Cable for N4 to HDMI

I picked up an adaptor cable for my micro usb to HDMI.... It doesn't work.... Do I need to switch something in the phone to see my pics on my TV.. ... It was one of those real cheapo adaptors... wondering if I need to upgrade to better quality and quit being so cheap....Any links to a cable that would work would be great ... Cheers..

These MHL adapters need to be supplied with the USB wall charger.

If you've bought an MHL adaptor it won't work. You need a slimport adaptor. I bought this one:

and it works with my N4. No external power is needed, though the adaptor has a USB port to allow you to connect the charger if you need to.

I had purchased one for my Galaxy Nexus. Do you guys thing it will work on my Nexus 4? I will give it a try when I get home.

Just reread jhsrennie's post, I guess it won't work.Its a MHL.
