I just tried to add a shortcut to my home screen on my Nexus 7 by long pressing on the homescreen, however when the menu pops up I just get three options on there - Gallery, Live Wallpapers and Wallpapers.

I don't get the "Shortcuts" option.

All I'm trying to do is to add a shortcut to my home using the GPS app.

Can someone help this Android newbie? Thanks

Open the app drawer and go to the widgets tab either by clicking it at the top or scrolling past your apps. You should find one on the second or third page entitled "Driving & Navigation". Drag it to the home screen and it will ask you to enter an address, choose the direction/navigation type, choose an icon, and give the shortcut a name.

That should do it for ya :)

Thanks, that did it indeed. :D

Is there any other way to add shortcuts though? I can't think of what shortcut right now, but I'm still curious though.

I use Nova Launcher instead of the stock home app and when I long-press on the home screen like you, instead of getting the three options you get, I get: Nova Actions, Apps, Shortcuts, Widgets, Wallpapers. I really like Nova Launcher and you'll find many here do as well.
