Having zero mobile coverage at home, and being on Orange, when I had my old Nokia I used UMA to provide network access at home. This is something I reluctantly had to give up when I got my Desire, almost a year ago.

Of course, within a couple of months, Orange started to offer the Desire S with UMA :( I'm locked in for 2 years, so changing to the Desire S isn't an option for quite a while.

I would have thought that it's technically possible to 'add' UMA to the Desire. The voice signal (and SMS etc) are all digitised (or already digital) and sent as packets over the mobile network. UMA effectively must re-route this information via WiFi. So, anyone know if it's possible/been done?

I guess it depends on how deeply this stuff is buried in the operating system, but I'm sure some of you on here know where this is...

    Thanks
