It wouldn't really help you as much as you'd like to think :/ The thing with that is that there still isn't a force pushing the air OUT through the holes. Sure, it'll make a minimal difference (maybe 1-5 degrees if you're REALLY lucky) but it wouldn't be worth the amount of possible damage you would be subjecting the phone to. Dust, Moisture, pollen, spores, and wind (because of the pressure it can make dust do TERRIBLE things) would all destroy your phone faster than a little bit of not too friendly heat that doesn't cause a reboot.
These are smart phones, they'll reset when they get too hot (because they don't know it's their fault.) On top of that, if you were to add a "filter" of any kind that would be significant enough to block the outside sources of damage, you would even further restrict the airflow.

So, the TL;DR Version is Yes, you can, it MAY help, and no it's not really worth it unless you put a really small fan/duct in there.

The only thing that can really help this heat issue would be a heat sink type device. Something that would conduct heat extremely well and have a large surface area to disPlace that heat but that large of a surface area would defeat the portability of the phone. The only other thing would bea fan to move the air which would not only make it large, bulky and not portable but would also increase the heat because of the extra power needed to power fan. There isn't much that can be done for the heat issue other than getting a new battery, getting lg to fix THEIR screw up or underclock the processor. Other than that maybe a new rom would fix issue because lg said it is a software issue so if they aren't lying to cover it up then someone who could figure it out would be able to fix it.
