Is there any way to synchronise alkido across more than one device so i can read books on my phone or tablet and it will go to the last page read on either device ?

If not are there any other ebook readers that offer this facility ?

Google play books and magazines has that functionality.

I'm not sure if there's a way to get that done on aldiko. I don't think they have cloud based services

Moon+ Reader syncs by Dropbox, Mantano Reader uses is own server for sync, but you'd need a subscription.
Kindle Reader uses its own Amazon server for sync ... syncs devices on many platforms.

I use Kindle myself and it synchronizes on all platforms. I haven't really tried other ebook readers since I started out with Kindle and I had a good experience with it.

Cheers for that folks, just one question ? Am I right in thinking Kindle only lets you read ebooks you purchased from Amazon ?

No, you can import other (free) ebooks with "Send to Kindle" (to devices and to the Kindle server), but not all ebook formates (e.g. not .epub format, this should be converted to .mobi format).
