Help Alerts hard to read

Ok, I know there must be an easy fix, but is there a way to change the background and font color on the alerts on the dropdown from the home screen. Mine is currently black font on gray background which is next to impossible to read with any glare (ie outside).
A theme change, easy setting I am easily missing???
