Its almost been a year since the Droid came out and I think it has lived up to its billing. I'm ready for a new phone though. The Droid has been running slow for whatever reason and the new phones look exciting.
I am going to wait until a new great phone comes out like the rumored 'Nexus 2' or a phone running the Tegra 2 chip.
Is everyone else ready for a new phone and what phone are they waiting for..or are you happy to stick with the original Droid????

I got my Droid on release day and I am still loving it! I'm rooted, which is the reason I'm still happy with it. I'm waiting till I am eligible for the new every 2 in May. I'll do a bunch of research in the preceding months to determine what phone to upgrade to. But I want a plain Google phone that is root-able with no locked loader.

My Droid is still going strong. Not sure when I'll try to upgrade, since my official upgrade date isn't until August '11.

If I could update right now, I'd want a Droid X. The slimmer profile and larger screen are a form factor I like better than the slideout keyboard of the Droid.

We'll have to see what's out when I can actually upgrade. Maybe the next version of the X later in '11?

I have a 2-year contract, and I got mine last march, I think? so I've got this phone for a while still. I still love it though! It's absolutely awesome!

When I do upgrade, I am thinking of going HTC. Honestly, I really like the D Inc, and it's specs, they are perfect for my taste, but prefer a physical keyboard. I want a pure google phone like the Droid, or HTC Sense. I really don't dig Blur. If they make a sort of equivalent to the G2 on VZW, I'll be happy. anything with a good 1 GHz+ processor and I'm good!

Without a doubt, Motorola Droid Terminator (aka: T2).

Unless, of course, it is NOT an LTE phone. But, it will be Motorola's flagship phone, and I'm hoping it will garner support from all the developers from this forum.

We were up in september to upgrade to a new phone. My wife and I played around with a few other android phones verizon has but in the end we decided we liked our droids so much we're going to keep them and not upgrade. It's just so easy to root and customize, and is still running lightning fast for us.

I got my Droid on Launch Day so I'm still 8 months away from my early NE2. By then the LG Tegra 2 superphone should be out. If it's everything I think it is, I'll bite. Otherwise my faithful Droid will stay by my side until a phone meeting my criteria comes out.

Nothing from Motorola because I've grown to hate them, that's for sure. The D1 was plagued with hardware issues, and now they're pulling this locked bootloader nonsense. Probably HTC or Samsung. I have an upgrade ready to go and I'm waiting for the barrage of LTE phones at CES 2011 to pull the trigger.

I have the original Droid and it is still going strong. However, as soon as the Verizon iPhone is ready to go -- that will be my next device. Despite how great the Droid has been as a handheld computer - it is a crappy phone. My first choice is a good service - Verizon does that for me. My next criteria is a good phone -- Droid has not hit that mark (and I've tried every trick posted here on the threads). Whatever device I get next - this forum will always be my first stop for advice and commiseration. It has saved my sanity many times.

HTC Droid Incredible HD! I'm so ready for this phone to drop...but is still unconfirmed at this time. RUMOR has it that this will be dropping on November 23rd.

How about the Sharp glasses-free 3D superphones coming out 2H 2011? Those look rockin' but I still haven't figured out how they do 3D with one lens... but I'm sure they'll have the bugs worked out by the time it's released :D

Eh...I'm not sold on 3D technology yet. Maybe it will be the next big wave but I'm not sure you would want to see things in 3D all of the time. I guess it would be cool when you were watching a movie, but not for email, texting, etc.

So what would the rationale be for choosing the Incedble HD over T2 (Droid Terminator), which is rumored to sport Tegra II?

for me at least, i llike that it will be 3g which = unlimited data. i also don't think the boot loader will be locked which = a lotta support from devs! i was going to go the x but after reading how omj is sick and tired of the locked boot loader and is anticipating the incredible hd it got me to thinking about this phone. from all i have read i really am liking it.

Honestly...I'm due for an upgrade now. The T2 is probably at least 3 months off if not longer. Plus...no specs are confirmed. Imagine it only sports a 3.7" screen...I want a bigger screen and EVO sized device.

I'm right there with ya on the upgrade... everything I've read about T2 indicates that it will be a 4" screen... slightly smaller than the X, but larger than D1, and I'm all about that. After many hours of internet browsing on my D1, I really have to have a bigger screen.

I don't know if T2 will be LTE or not, but frankly, if the preliminary tests hold true that LTE is 10x faster than EVDO (3G), then I guess I'm willing to pay for the performance boost provided that those numbers hold up in the real world. As for launch, I read that Motorola has the hardware ready, they're just waiting on Gingerbread. Given that, I would agree that we're looking at Q1 for T2 to show up.

That said, I'd sworn off Motorola because of the eFuse dilemma and was leaning more towards HTC until I read about the Tegra II processor being used by Motorola. But I'm still gathering info and realize a lot will happen over the next 90 days. It's hard to be patient!

My next phone hasn't been made yet. As far as I am concerned, there isn't anything that is so significantly greater than my rooted, custom rom'ed, overclocked Droid that I would consider buying. I bought my Droid on day one and have never for a moment regretted it. I live in a rural area with excellent voice and 3G service but it isn't likely to get LTE for a long time, so that isn't a motivation either.

    In the forum dog house.
Exactly. I've invested so much time in improving my Droid (thanks to this site ;) ) that I can remain satisfied with it for at least one more year. Even after that, it will remain hard to beat without a further investment of time doing the same to a new model.

I am disappointed at the lack of physical keyboards paired with larger screens. The largest screen so far that I've seen is on the Epic; my girlfriend has it, and while it's a wonderful phone, I'd like 4.3" or maybe even larger with a keyboard. What ever happened to this little rumor device? Didn't it end up growing up to be the Droid X?

Define what you mean by "good phone"? Antenna-gate, right? Yeah, you can see how Apple really prioritized phone hardware over "OH MAN LOOK HOW COOL THIS STRIP OF METAL IS IT'S A REAL ANTENNA! LIKE FROM THE EARLY 1900s!" Sorry, you won't get much Apple sympathy from this forum. And from me in particular. I would love for a company corrupt enough to make Microsoft look like a charity case to go bankrupt, but every sheep in the nation is buying up a Macbook and an iPod.

Phone quality is a moot point, or should be, among smart phones. Android has responded to the iPhone's success; Apple is doing the same this time around because Android has been able to adapt to Apple's success by pointing out obvious quirks with the iPhone. Now, Apple has had to include more multitasking (not full) options; folders, etc.
