Okay, I'm trying to figure out the cheapest way to do this without purchasing the $90 adapter. If I were to purchase a 30pin to USB cord, then a USB to HDMI cord, and connected them all to my TV, would that work to make my note show on the television?

A $19 MDL to HDMI adapter and a $5 HDMI cable would probably do the job cheaper. Try to find an adapter with a microUSB port so you can power the phone at the same time.

(And don't believe the "our cable gives you real HDMI for $90" crap. If the cable isn't good enough you'll see "sparkles" - little white spots. Return it - it's defective. If you don't see sparkles, you're getting HDMI. It's digital - a bit can be either 0 or 1. A "bad" cable won't make it 0.5. It's either 0 or 1. If the signal is too low it's a 0. If it's too high it's a 1. In most cases, like when the phone is 5 feet from the TV, almost any HDMI cable will work. (If you see one for 69 cents, be leery.) Even if the cable is 10 or 15 feet long, most "regular" ($10-$20) cables will work. (My 6 foot cable cost me about $5.) The only thing expensive HDMI cables do is make the sellers rich. (If you're running 90 feet of cable inside the wall in new construction, spend the extra money. It's cheaper than ripping out the wall in 5 years.)

I wasn't able to find a MDL to HDMI adapter online. Is MDL the same thing as MHL? When looking at MHL to HDMI adapters, they look like they are like mini-usb. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 has a 30 pin connector.
