always show away in gtalk?

Both my wife and I have the droid, no matter what we set our status to (available, DND) in the gtalk app we appear away to everyone. The status messages seem to update fine though. Is their a setting we're missing, or is there a bug in the gtalk app?

Here's my theory or guess.

Do you use google on another pc? Maybe at work?

I always leave gmail open at work sometimes, and maybe it's showing your status logged in from somewhere else.

nope we don't have it open anywhere else. Also i'm not sure if gtalk does this, but with Pidgin you can see where the person is connected from and their status on each device. so for instance my wife shows up as.

Status (Android): Away
Status (gmail): Available

if she's logged into both. I've yet to see us as anything but away on android.

I shut the droid off, and on my wifes GTalk application on the laptop I went offline. Booted the Droid back up and I show away.

If I set my status to invisible on the Droid, I disappear.
Set status to Busy, and show away.
Set status to active and shows away.

Definitely something wrong here.

I think its a setting in gtalk on the droid. Open gtalk. Click the menu key (the 4 lines). Select "settings". There is an option for status that automatically shows your status as AWAY whenever the screen is off. You can uncheck this and I think it should solve the problem.

Yea I saw that setting and its turned off.

I can log into GMail (With the Droid still on), and it shows me available. Log out and back to away.

I don't get it.

Another stealth update?

Status changes on the phone work now, but "Away" isn't an option anymore only available, busy (DND), and invisible. Was away and option before? I can't remember since it didn't work i never bothered updating my status on the phone

Edit: tried the "Automatic away-status" setting and broke it. now I show away again all the time, even after turning the setting back off and rebooting the phone. I can still see my wife's phone as available though. To bad she's really sleeping or i could experiment more (and break hers too)

Status updates started working again on my phone. But the automatic away when screen off doesn't seem to work still. Obviously the gtalk app is still a little buggy, but at least they seem to be working on it.

What is everyone else experiencing? This is much more fun to toy with then real work

Yeah, I was working on it last night and no matter what I did I still show up as "away". Hopefully google gets it working right soon.
