Is there a AM Radio app that does not work off of the internet?
I don't believe you can receive am radio frequencies with any smartphone. It will always have to go through data. I use TuneIn Radio and get some good am stations, but it does go over data too.
You would need the physical radio antennae in the phone to receive radio signals.
Yes to the AtheistReverend. There is no am receiver in any mobile phone as far as I know. There is no way to receive am signals other than by picking up those retransmitted on FM or over the internet. FM reception, if your phone has the receiver built in, almost always needs headphones/earphones plugged in so that the cable can act as an aerial.
