Leaving aside the way fortune has smiled on the rest of us :) how do you like the app? Is it worth it? Audubon has several more guide apps (plants, mammals, etc) that might be fun for this summer's camping season.

I got it and I like it. If you're interested in birding, it would seem to be essential. I would never have paid the $10 for it, but for free, it's a nice app. It gives you lots of ways to search for birds, and gives not only a description and pictures, but calls for most birds. There are a few with no recorded calls, like the ivory-billed woodpecker which has probably been extinct for years, but most have a range of recorded songs/calls.

Seems to still be there for me. My free app today is a side-scroller called "Gunman Clive". Not going to bother, because I don't seem to play many games. Just don't have time, poor me -- which seems a good cue to try out the new emoticon:
    :musicus:

Speaking of playing the world's smallest fiddle... I finally tried out the Audubon Bird app. Keep in mind that I've got a low end phone, so anything that uses more than a meg of RAM is going to give me problems. Audubon used ALL my RAM. Once the phone started responding again, which was a while, my monitor widget (App 2 SD) showed my free ram as 300K. K as in Kilobytes -- keep in mind that the phone won't let me receive messages or install apps if I get below 20 meg. Audubon went through 20MB of RAM like a the Roadrunner eating Wile E. Coyote's birdseed. I felt lucky that I was able to uninstall it, and that Android didn't totally brick under the load (yay Android!).

It has to be said... on a low-end phone like mine, that Audubon app is for the birds.

Yeah, I guess they were slow to update or something. I didn't see anything when I went to check it last night.

Yes I have the HTC Incredible Phone. When I run Audubon, I get the "Low Memory" warning even though the App is loaded on the SD card. Seems Audubon uses quite a bit of internal phone memory and cache.

Well, guess I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one with the problem of the Amazon Appstore eating battery for no reason. Currently sitting at the top of my battery use list at 16%, more than WiFi and Phone Idle. And it is constantly doing something, because when I look at the details, the CPU total time is slowly going up, along with the data sent and received. So far today, it has sent 570.31 KB and received 9.07 MB. And I haven't opened the app at all. I REALLY want to know what, exactly, it is sending out and getting back on its own. I really want to uninstall it, but don't want to make the apps I've gotten thru it useless, so kind of stuck. Oh, and strangely, I have a Nook Tablet that is rooted and I have Amazon Appstore installed on it, and I don't seem to have this problem on there at all.

You could always try clearing the appstore's data and cache. It'll log you out and clear any Alps that you've downloaded but have yet to install. Their more recent updates resolved it for me, but I found that by logging out it reduced its need to run in the background (and made waiting for the fix easier). Just know that some apps will require you to be logged in, though in my case it wasn't all of them.

I was unable to clear the Appetite data. When I try, the process crashes. So I uninstalled and reinstalled the Appetite, seems to be behaving fine now. But I'll be keeping my eyes on it!

Dang, didn't even notice that, stupid autocorrect! I meant Appstore, although I wish I could uninstalled or at least delete data from my appetite, lol!

Hmm, this is interesting. After I grabbed the Ninja Chicken app, I got this note from Amazon:
Is this just based on my own purchasing history, or is every Ninja Chicken d/l generating a $1 mp3 credit?

Today's free app is Voltage. Pieces drop down from the top and you have to complete a circuit.

Ugh, today's app is something called Daisy's Crazy Day. "Daisy's got a hot date with Brad tonight, and she needs to get ready!" Includes Competitive Shopping at the Mall. Reviews are about 5-to-1 awful (as in, 1 star). My favorite: "What kind of HORRIBLE game would promote a young girl to lose weight to go out on a date? I'm surprised it doesn't have an option for her to barf a few times to fit into some jeans."

Does anybody know how to play cricket?

The tension, the fun, the high voltage drama; it's all here in World Cricket Championship - Pro. This 3D-style cricket game takes you into the arena of international cricket, offering two game modes for twice the intensity.
    [IMG]Up to bat

In Quick Play, choose your own team and your opponent. Batsmen are pre-chosen, but you select your bowlers from the players available. By winning the toss you have the option to bat or ball first. You can play either a 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, or 30 over match. If you are a first-time player, try Quick Play mode a few times before you move on to Tournament mode.
In Tournament mode, two groups play simultaneously, though you only confront the team from the other group at the quarter-final level. Choose your own side and play against the specified team. As in Quick Play, batsmen are specified, but you can select your bowlers. Win at least four games out of six to avoid elimination and enter the quarter-finals. Elimination automatically ends the tournament. Quarter-finals and semi-finals are knock-out rounds. Win your quarter-final to enter the semi-final round, then progress toward the championship match.
