Amazon.com Free App of the Day

Well, I wanted to download Amazon's free app of the day using my old Amazon.com account. However, why does Amazon request you have a payment method for FREE apps? I don't feel like putting my credit card back on their site as I don't use them anymore.

Is there any way around this?

No way around it that I know of unless you just put a visa/mastercard giftcard on it. I think that's what my brother did with a visa card he had maybe $10 on. Since he doesn't really use amazon anymore either.
