I got my spica updated from 1.5 to 2.1 from Samsung Service center at Pune. It is although a bit slower than 1.5 but i am happy with the new goodies of 2.1 in my Galaxy Spica:)

I went to Pimpri service centre and they send my phone to the main service center of Samsung at Pune city. i don't remember where it is exactly located. you can call customer care and they can guide you about the location.
PS: Mostly service center guys are novoice and they don't even know the difference b/w 1.5 nd 2.1 you need to tell to them that bluetooth is not working on your phone and they need to upgrade it for enabling this feature. If this doesn't works then talk to the service center head and then they will send your phone to the main service center for reflashing.

    Himanshu,
It would be great if you can share with us the changes that you witnessed in the update. for example
1)camera 2)The interface(i guess we get the samsung's Touch Wiz interface). 3) About the bluetooth.3)the display(1.5 it was just 65k,2.1 it should be 16M).4)Baterry life 5)Div X play back and finally browsing experience.

One more thing, U mentioned its a bit slow than the 1.5 can u please share a bit more on that! Just curious to know what we get :) in the update!!!!

Hi .. the most significant change i have noticed is that you can sync multiple accounts i think max 4 (google, facebook or corporate) which was not there in previous version.

Once u sync the account and u can also then remove it which was missing in 1.5

Contacts back up can be taken on SD card u can export or import contacts from SD card ... which means if u find the need to format the phone u can simply take back up on SD card, format the phone and restore it back from card..

rest everything is cosmetic.... also u will not be able to access Vodafone Live in India once u upgrade to 2.1 u will need to take advance GPRS plan from Vodafone...

@skarekar: Do you notice if the lag usually associated with the onscreen keyboard in horizontal (landscape) mode is still present? Also, are you able to use Google Maps and the GPS. I read somewhere that with the update some Spica users reported a faster lock on to GPS sats resulting in better location tracking.

Also, after some days of usage, please report back with your opinion on battery consumption / usage - better, worse or can't tell the difference etc.

    Thanks!

Hi.. the lag u r mentioning is totally gone in Android 2.1 .. the onscreen keyboard works just fine in landscape mode.. yup the google maps works much better as there is an updated version of gmaps launched for 2.1 ..
yeahh sad part battery consumption has increased.. i think battery life has reduced by 15-20%

The music player looks awesome especially the album view in landscape mode...

@skarekar: Thanks for the quick reply. A 15-20% drop isn't a good thing at all. :-(

Any word whether the Spica supports multi-touch gestures and pinch+zoom?

    @ SKarekar

15 - 20% less battery back up is real surprising coz the statement is that Android 2.1 makes efficient use of the hardware and increses battery backup!

ok, Skarekar it would be great if you can tell us something about the
    1)additional camera modes/ camera performance
    2)Does the UI LAG??????
    3)what about DivX play back????

I felt reduction in battery life...I may be wrong..

    1) for camera details chk out this link
Samsung I5700 Galaxy Spica review: Stars serving Eclairs - GSMArena.com

    2) Felt UI lag initially but then I disabled window animations and things were fast

    3) in the link mentioned above Pg5 gives details on DIVX playback.. i have not tried it yet....
