Correct me if i'm wrong, but seeing that the Evo and the incredible both run 2.1 with sense wouldn't if they get 2.2 out for one of the two devices wouldn't it be capable to run on the other device also? So if the Evo gets 2.2 first the incredible should get it at the same time?

Nope, because Verizon and Sprint each will have to give the approval to do the OTA, on there own. So they will not happen at the same time most likely, my guess is the EVO will get it 2-6weeks before the Incredible.

With Verizon finally being a smartphone player, I think you will see the approval process be reduced substancially.

True, but it'll be stock froyo. No sense UI

I'd rather wait for the official OTA

I like Sense, but I'm using less and less of Sense these days. There are some really good Home replacements that do just as good if not better job than Sense such as ADW and LauncherPro. Search the forums and check them out. I'm thinking HTC should focus on the core build and if they wan't you to have Sense make it a Market Download for HTC only phones this way those who don't care about Sense can get the core android updates faster.

You'd be surprised cause there are cooks out there that can build sense UI onto 2.2 if they just get a leaked ROM.

Different strokes for different folks :)

You prefer stock android, I prefer Sense UI.

    Neither of us is wrong.

I must admit, my positive bias towards Sense is probably due to owning a plethora of HTC phones previously with various iterations of TouchFlo3d and Sense.

Exactly, well put. To each his own. I was playing with my friends nexus one with 2.2 froyo a few weeks ago, it was awesome..

Haha, yea.. that probably has something to do with it. My liking for stock probably had to do with all my friends having droids and or nexus ones..

If only htc gave us the option to run stock or sense. One day.. hopefully!

The only thing I will miss really is the live HTC widgets that allow you to scroll from a home screen. Although, I'm very close to getting rid of my last HTC widget which is the twitter app. I just love the scroll feature.

I wonder if you will be able to use folders and scroll through those still... Thats currenlty how I store my favorite contacts.

    Please....

Where have you been? "finally a smartphone player" ???

The Sammy I700 was one of the first and most advanced "smartphones" of it's time... followed by I730, a few HTC 6*** series phones and others.

They may not approve them at a pace that makes everyone happy but Big Red has been a "smartphone" player from day 1... and worth adding in Verizon's defense... they have been the first to have top of the line data delivery for all of those handset too... ah yes, getting that 1x on my old I730 was data heaven back in that day.

Not an employee... just a happy customer

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Eris get upgraded to 2.1 before the Sprint equivalent, the Hero (which I believe was even released before the Eris)?

Agreed, VZW has been in the smartphone arena for quote a while. But I would still agree that Big Red will speed up the approval process, if for no other reason than the heated competition in the smartphone market.

Yeah, hopefully. Or the same time wouldn't be bad either. :)

I used to think VZW was always behind too, which is why I was shocked when 2.1 rolled out for the Eris before lots of other 1.5/1.6 phones that were waiting. I took it as a sign VZW is finally trying to stay a step ahead of the competition, but we shall see how this one plays out.

The incredible has been rooted, but there is no easy way of doing it as of yet. They're working on flashable recoveries right now, but this stuff has only been in development for a day so far.

Who knows when they will port froyo.

I have been a Verizon customer for over 10 years. Verizon has taken a huge leap (along with all carriers) entering into the next phase of cell phone technology. So of course they have been in the smart phone business however that wasn't really the point of my post.

    Not without root.

The Incredible and Evo, close as they are, aren't identical.

They have a lot of differences "under the hood" where sprint or verizon made tweaks.

Not to mention all of the carrier specific stuff, even though they are both CDMA.

If Evo got Froyo w/Sense UI official, it COULD be ripped and possibly hacked to work on a rooted Incredible by merging the codebase from Incredible 2.1 and Evo 2.2, but it would probably be a kludge.

This is another difficult decision for me as I've never played around with stock Android. I have nothing to compare Sense to.. but I do know I really like how the phone operates right now.
