I keep seeing information about the Android 2.2 software. Is it available? I'm confused...

You can install it if you're rooted. Otherwise, you'll have to stick to 2.1

I have EVilEris4.0. Should I switch to Froyo one?

Froyo is the latest update to the Android Operating System. It adds several functions just as the 2.1 update did from the 1.5. I go back and forth with wanting to have Froyo on my phone, because I just seem to get better battery and faster performance out of good 2.1 ROMs. I'm sure that Verizon has released a list of features that have been updated on 2.2 (Froyo). Many of the features are now being incorporated into the 2.1 ROMs through developer customizations.

Right now, I'm using Nonsensikal Froyo.

HTC has made it clear that the Eris will never officially recieve Android 2.2 (aka froyo).

As stated above, rooting your phone, and upgrading to any of the froyo roms is your only choice if you want to keep up with the pack.

    KaosFroyo
    CelebFroyo
    TazzFroyo

each of those are stable, and working without any real issues, i've been switching between each and haven't found which one I want to stick with. I put my wife on Kaos, while I'm on Celeb, just to put each phone head to head and they perform equal.

I have KaosFroyo but not sure which version, how do I tell? Which version is the latest?
The only little complaint I have is that the email icon and the text icons do not have the little indicator showing the number of unread messages.

simplest way is to check the ROM you left on your SDCard using whatever file manager you have.

Kaos is on v29 right now which came out on 08-13-10 (just 5 days old!)

Cool. I just saw that I have the latest version. But now I'm not so sure if it performs better than EvilEris. That ROM seemed very nice as well. I heard there was an MMS problem with it but I didn't check it for myself to see if that was in fact the case.

It could be that the file was downloaded and not flashed, so a way to confirm is settings->about phone, and look at the build number at the bottom.

MMS problem is rare, but happens. happened once for me, the quick fix is to flash back to a 2.1 rom setup your google account, then let it sync and then just flash back to 2.2 and its fixed..... strange..... I know but thats how I got it to work, the nand restore apparently doesn't copy and overwrite everything... go figure.

If you use Launcher Pro and put those two icons in the dock you can have it tell you the number of unread messages on both of them. It will even tell you the number of unread texts if you use Handcent.
