In my conversation with Verizon today
the Rep. told me that I could upgrade my Commando
with Android 2.3 if I wanted to.
    Is this true?
I thought that Casio had to release some sort of update
so that Android 2.3 could be used on the Commando,
but I may have been mistaken as this is all still very new to me.

If the Commando CAN be updated to 2.3,
can anyone explain the benefits AND the drawbacks to doing so?
Which version is better and why?

well right now its on 2.2 so i think the rep was mistaken, some phones alow you to put custom roms on your phone but I have yet to see some for the casio commando. As for 2.3 its smoother more features so I would say if you can get 2.3 get 2.3 but i havent seen it for the casio commando yet.

    From experience:
Never believe what a Verizon rep tells you. Never believe it even if you get the same story from 5 different reps.
If they actually do what they claim......don't believe it until you have tested it.

They certainly have the best phone/data service in my area; but they are fighting hard to become the worst customer service firm in the country.....and they can probably stop trying. It's too bad....years ago they were the best.

If I had a nickel for every time a Verizon rep told me something they could not back up with results.........your personal deity would be my servant.

    That's what I figured.

She even went as far to say that when you get your new phone,
(mine has to be replaced for a couple different reasons posted in other threads)
call us back and we'll walk you through the process of installing 2.3.
I said no problem, and that way if it messes up the new phone,
then Verizon will be 100% responsible.
She back-tracked very quickly and said, it's YOUR choice to put it on there,
all Verizon is doing is telling you how.

    Pretty shady eh?
They can't even stand behind their own "support".

If there is any possibility that it is true; it would be interesting to find out the details and post them for everyone to benefit from. It can't hurt to ask.....other than wasting your time.

I find it hard to believe that Verizon is providing, allowing, or even suggesting that users can update the OS. It just doesn't make sense fromthe standpoint of device support. Why would they not make it available to all users?

Yeah....I bet that behaviour is frowned upon by her superiors.

If Verizon was will to stand behind their support I would do it in a heartbeat and would definitely post everything that happened.
BUT.... since she back-tracked and basically told me that if they jack up my phone it's MY problem......
    No way.
    Not in this lifetime.

    Coincidence I would imagine.
I really doubt that a Verizon rep would be able to
put in on your devise before an official release...right?
Either way, it's a good thing.
    I'm downloading it now.
    Thanks for posting it.:)

I just read some of the fixes in this release.
One being a fix for the proximity sensor.
I laughed as soon as I saw that because just 3 days ago I called
tech support bitching about this, and they're sending me a new phone.
It should actually arrive sometime today. lol.
Apparently those guys aren't on the same page AT ALL over there.

    That being said...
I'm gonna update the old devise first
and if things start messing up because of the update,
then I'll know not to update the new one. :D

Isn't it funny how they don't let you update via Wi-Fi.

    Just updated to 2.3.3

The download went smoothly. I've only had my phone for two days so this is all new to me, it is my first smartphone (prior phone was a Ravine). Can't notice any big changes yet other than the system reads "Android version 2.3.3" after the upgrade.
