If the caller's number is in your contacts it will show the contact name.. Also there is a free app called adaffix that will lookup the number via wifi or 3g at the time of the call and display the caller name if a result is found.

If you do not have caller ID, it cannot display the name, since it does not have the calling number data at all. Same for any other app.

Shame on Bell. Can you not switch to another operator? AFAIK T-Mobile, AT&T do not charge anything for caller ID. In India also it is free.

$12 for caller ID? - sheesh, my entire mobile bill with data and lots of voice usage rarely reaches that amount.

$12 or less for your ENTIRE plan? Wow, you really don't realize just how bad Canada is until you talk to people from other countries. This damn country is ridiculous.....

Of course, of one wants to watch Youtube videos or Internet radio on the phone all the time, it is very costly. But for general medium use, it is very cheap. I pay $1 for 500 texts, $4 or so for 500 min talk (incoming is free) and $2 for 2GB on Edge or $8 for 500MB 3G. Caller ID is free and so is call waiting.

Latest news is that these are somewhat unsustainable and increases of 20% or so are around the corner.

Oh, I though they were not letting the names from the caller-id system through. That is crappy if they don't let the numbers through even. That is such a basic feature that nearly every company just gives to there customers. Or in the case of Cingular was part of there caller-id/call waiting/voice mail package for about $5-6 a month. Though the plan I got gave it for free back then and I've never paid for it since.
